Fluting - How long? how many?

    I'm looking into my first custom rifle and I'm wondering how many flutes are common on a barrel? Also how long is standard? - Like on a 22" barrel would you flute 18" and leave 3" on both ends, 2.5, only 2? 1? What is normal. I want to find out as much as I can before I start talking to the smith as I want to have some idea of what I'm seeking before hand. Thanks all.

    Most often the flutes follow the rifling, 6 groove, 6 flutes. Thats what I've seen.
