My understanding is that the only producer of FN ammo is FNH, because of a patent issue. I'd really like a five seven, but I will not buy one while the ammo availability is so low and price is so high. Does anyone know if this patent is set to expire in the near future, or if things will ever change with this round?

Other people now make ammo for the 5.7. The strike at FN is over, I hear, so ammo from them should be more plentiful at some point.

I thought Federal American Eagle was making 5.7 x 28mm ammo for the Fiveseven & PS90, also if they are still in business Elite Ammunition made some pricy SD ammo for them also. I think the biggest issue is that there is only one manufacturer of the 5.7 x 28mm brass, as the only way you can get to reload this round is to buy loaded ammo to build up a supply of brass. Things may have changed, but I still haven't seen where you can buy virgin brass, yet. LM

doesn't seem too horrible. the price and availability has gotten a lot better since ATK started cranking out american eagle brand ammo but it's still hit or miss sometimes and it's still more than 45ACP for cost.

I have waited on buying a 5.7 because I can't find the ammo. The range where I shoot has everything but this and 22lr. Once I start seeing this available again, I will start looking to buy a five-seven again.

I am seriously thinking of selling my Five Seven and the ammo I have collected. If I do, it will be put on gunbroker. It will be bitter sweet, . . . but I really don't need it, . . . and need downpayment money for whenever I am forced to get another car.

Mine has been "altered" a bit. Took the sharp stippling down some. Has low profile sights set up for the "slower" SS197SR round. Has the metal magazine release.

It's a nice gun and is quite accurate. Love the light weight of it, . . . but it is a "luxury item" in the gun world. Not as expensive to buy or feed as SOME, . . . but still up there.

I got out of the cartridge because ammo was so scarce and I could sale (at the time) my gun an ammo for what seemed a good bargain.
