Recent Range and Performance Review of FNP-45

I recently wrote a range and performance review on the FNP-45 and FNP-45 USG on the FN Forum. It was meant for average guys like me who want to know more about a particular weapon and not have to wade through possible hidden agendas or motives.

picked mine up this Tuesday week

What a great firearm! A friend and I decided to get one each he got the black on black and I got the stainless on black frame. We both had no troubles and enjoyed our 100 each at teh range. I must say everything is in the right spot on this and I am thoroughly impressed. This one is my primary sidearm now!
FN, THANK YOU for making the 9mm vs 45 argument so much more fun!!

Thanks for the good read on the FNP.45 ACP. I'm afraid you were preaching to the choir though. I bought mine in the USG mode with the black on black colors in March 09. I love this pistol. It is the best handgun I have ever owned. I carried a Browning Hi Power for years. I work armed security off and on in and around Columbia,South Carolina. I used to work security on the midnight shift at the State Farmers Market in the old days when it was down on Bluff road across from the USC stadium. I sometimes feel my pulse rising when I have a couple of boxes of WallyWorld White Box and am on the way to the range down on Sunset Blvd..It just gets better and better when I fire it. I am a firm believer that having faith in your weapon will raise your score at the range on its own. I know this pistol can shoot better than I can. I have had five shot strings firing off a rest at 10 -15 yds. or so when many went in to the same hole. Thanks again for your article. I am saving up next for the FNAR... I have to talk the wife into it first though...

I've been impressed with the various reports I've read of the firearm, but there have been a few remarks as to the width of the grip. How do the grips compare to other higher capacity .45acp, such as the Glock 21? Anyway, thanks for the range report!

they have very chunky grips. i have small hands but can handle my 92f just fine. the grips are bigger than the beretta 92 and the trigger reach in DA mode seemed longer also. i wanted one to work for me as it had everything i was looking for. but when i picked it up, i knew it wasnt for me

Though that's not what I wanted to hear, it's certainly what I needed to.
I have average sized mitts and find the G21 on the slightly uncomfortable side.

i've been eyeballing the fnp for a while... thanks for the report. i just can't decide wether i want one of these... or a beretta 92fs in inox. i really don't need either, but i love both guns.

The FNP has a far better grip over the Glock for Me.
For me it's like they made it with my hands in mind.

Try one out for yourself and decide.
All I had to do was pick it up and I knew it was the one for me.

It's like a natural extension of my arm.
No getting used to it, just grab and point and it's on target.

As a sidearm should be, or any gun for that matter.

If I can't pick it up and hold it comfortably the moment I pick it up I don't want it.
I am not forced to like it, if I don't like it I let it go.
The whole ya just need practice is a bunch of kool aid drinkin BS.

If the Glock, M&P, XD fits ya get it.
If it don't and ya have to "train" to make it work cause some dude on the net says it's cool...

I wear shoes because they fit me and are comfortable, not because everyone else has them and my feet hurt but I sure am cool now.

In the end I have a good lookin rig that is comfortable to handle, draws excellent and I can consistently put most holes on top of each other.
Works for me. 16 rounds of 230 gr Rem GS at my disposal.
I just installed night sights on it as well and it is even better.
Installed em myself too.

I love my FNP 45

I recently purchased a FNP 45 in dark earth and I must say, it is a great firearm. It is a little large in size, but I find the grips suitable for me. I have average size hands and I had to put on the bigger arched backstrap. I am probably going to put on some rubber grips to increase comfort though. As far as recoil, it is very light. Once you shoot, it seems as if the gun puts itself back on target very quickly. The recoil compares to a 9mm. I am very impressed. I like the dull melonite finish. There is no way any light will reflect off of that slide. Before I became familiar with the FNP45, I was eyeballing a 9mm for the mag capacity. When I found the FNP45 with a 15 rd cap mag, I was sold. This is definately the best hand gun that I have ever owned.

I have owned my black FNP 45 for about 6 months now, I love it! High capacity, nice balance, handles perfectly, shoots really, really well. I have pretty small hands for a guy my size, and I think it fits well. I liked how it felt from day one, I handled one at the NRA show in '08. I am still a 1911 advocate but this gun is so much fun in it's own right, and carrying two 1911's worth of ammo in one clip is much more convenient. FN does a great job with ergonomics, my FNAR handles really well also.

Thanks for the excellent review. I've been paying particular attention to FN guns. Those FNs look like a great value, and I like that they include 2 or 3 mags when you buy the gun. I don't normally like polymer, but FN's polymer frame actually looks pretty good.

The FFL who does my transfers for me is a model 1911 freak. He is always telling me about what new .45 he picked up and what a joy a crisp SA trigger is to shoot. About a year ago I go to his home to do a transfer and what does he have strapped to his hip...an FNP-45. He tells me he tried on at at the SHOT show and then bought one...he LOVES IT. After a few months he liked it so much that he went out and got the FNP-40 since he didn't own a .40 pistol!
