Just heard about the FN 510 in 10mm, wish it was their hammered FNX in 10mm.

Anyone have any insider information on whether that’s in FN’s cards or not?

If FN were to make an FNX 10mm (tactical or otherwise) I would buy one as soon as they come out. Doubt they are going to though.

Always glad to see another 10mm pistol produced

    Waiting for a Taurus 10mm & a Dagger 10mm
Probably in the next couple of years

I’d prefer the FNX Tactical in a 10MM for sure. Absolutely love my FNX Tactical in .45 ACP.

    Maybe.

A month ago, the general consensus was that FN was not interested in getting into a 10mm, and people were questioning how long they would continue to support / produce their .45 FNX. And then they released the 545 and 510.

And this has seemed to increase the calls for an FNX-10. It might be the right time to start writing emails to FN asking for an FNX-10T.

No surprise that FN would produce the lower cost 510 striker to enter the 10mm market. It's probably what I would have done as well.

It seems to me that external hammer fired guns are only realizing a market of gun enthusiasts rather than the general gun crowd. Not to mention they are more costly to manufacture, so it was no surprise to see FN's move here. Just hope they keep and expand their FNX line.

One other encouraging thought. I have not yet heard if the 545 magazines fit and function in the FNX-45.

But if they do, it’s probably safe to assume the 510 mags should fit and function in the FNX frame as well. At that point, one of the aftermarket barrel manufacturers could produce a 10mm conversion barrel for the FNX-45. With a barrel and mags, we would then have an FNX-10.

I would be perfectly fine buying a FNX-45 and and aftermarket 10mm barrel and utilize 510 mags.

I shoot 45ACP as well, but I use/shoot 10mm more and anticipate that relationship to only increase in my case going forward.

Of course, nobody has reported on whether or not the 545 mags will work in the FNX. Maybe because they’re out of stock everywhere. I know I wouldn’t mind getting a couple 18-round 545 mags for the FNX, so long as they work.

I did just now find a place with one 15-round 545 mag in stock. So I bought it, along with a couple more FNX mags. (Magshack has factory FNX-45 mags for $50, which is about the best I’ve seen anywhere).

I should be able to report back if it works in a week or so.

Please do. I have the FNX 45T, and the conversion to 460 Rowland. I'm Heavily invested in the FNX as I have an FNX 40 as well (I should have bought a bucket full of those when they were $250 (plus the $20 transfer fee made it $270).....at least I bought ONE at that price)
I've like DA/SA pistols of various flavors, FN being among my favorites along with Sigs offerings. I still need a P227 and maybe if I wish hard enough they'll make a double stack 10mm akin to the P226, p227 ect.
But you know what they say, wish in one hand....

@captain awesome When/where were the FNX 40's going for $250?!?

Man, that's a lot of gun and quality for $250.

Yeah for sure. I didn't know much about them at the time, but saw the deal and thought "FN makes good stuff" and bought it. If I recall correctly it was some liquidation deal at Sportsman's outdoor superstore or cdnn sports or something similar. This was probably about 5 or 6 years ago, but I do remember thinking how insane it was once I got it to be sold at that price when I saw how much the other FNX's were going for and fired it. I wasn't much into semi auto handguns aside from 1911s until the last few years. There were a couple other polymer frame pistols I bought and sold to make a quick profit, but the FNX 40 was the first one I bought then decided to keep. I've had a thing for DA/SA pistols ever since.

So the day after I ordered the FN 545 Mag, someone posted some good comparison photos over on FNForums.net.

A couple of the photos make it obvious the 545 (and presumably 510 mags) will not work in the FNX45 without modifying either the mag or the frame of the FNX. It looks like the FNX mag may work in the 545, but I’m not certain on that.

However, I was able to confirm the mag body is the same, and the follower appears to be the same as well. The spring appears to be slightly longer and has one more coil than an FNX45 mag spring.

I swapped base pads and was able to load 15 rounds in the mag (545 mag body & guts / FNX basepad) and it locked into the gun. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet, but I expect it to work as well as any factory mag.

And I can buy aftermarket base pads from Apex for extended capacity. I haven’t looked, but I expect I should be able to buy a factory FNX basepad for the 545 mag as well.

So why bother buying and using 545 mags for the FNX? I can think of two reasons:

    1) if the 545 mags worked, that’s the least cost approach to getting extended capacity factory mags. It would be less expensive to buy a 18-round 545 mag vs. buying an FNX mag + aftermarket extended basepad. But that only works if the (unaltered) mag would have worked in the FNX. Or, it does appear that one could modify the base pad to work, without affecting function or reliability. I may try this, as I have no use for the 545 base pad.

    2) The 510 mag should have the same external dimensions, with the correct internal dimensions and fees lip spacing for the 10mm cartridge. If FN won’t give us an FNX10, we can use these mags and then just convince one of the aftermarket barrel makers to build a conversion barrel, and we can make our own FNX10.

Well if you manage to find someone willing to do a group buy on the 10mm barrel for an FNX, count me in.

And thank you for looking into that and taking the time to post.
