For the 25-06 shooters...

In a previous thread I opened a week ago, I mentioned that my wife gave me money for my birthday gift, where I chose to but a Ruger Gunsite. After further research, I decided to buy a rifle in 25-06 instead. I bought a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 25-06, well, I'm still waiting for it to arrive form Davidson's Gallery of Guns. This will be my deer rifle.

Anyway, I have noticed that there are many brands and weights of 25-06 ammo. I am cheap and do not want to test all of the brands for the best accuracy. So I am asking the 25-06 shooters out there to share with me their favorite factory ammo for accuracy.

Find the twist rate of thebarrel. And for from there. My Remington BDL700 is superaccurate with 100 gr NoslerBT handloads. I bought a box of Federal Fusion 120 gr but havent tried it yet.
 
When I shot factory ammo in my .25-06 I never found a bad brand, all were good. And now you have even more to choose from. For deer stay with 100 gr or 120 gr.
 
Yeah, buy any factory 100 gr and 120 gr bullets and try each at the range. You should get less MOA on that one easy at 100 yds. .25 06 is always an accurate round.
 
Winchester Supreme 115 gr Ballistic Silvertip - .25-06 Rem, sweeeet and accurate..... save the "brass" if you reload,,,,try loads with 117 gr round nose for the ultimate deer hunter round, absolutely devastating...

I have a 25-06 built on an Argentine Mauser action (of 1909) with a 26" Shilen barrel. It shoots everything I've shot in it really well, but 100gr Nosler BT's shoot really, REALLY well. Also, they have proved to be a death ray on local deer (up to about 150# around here).

I am shooting reloads with the BT's over IMR 4350 powder at moderately heavy charges.

You're gonna LOVE that caliber! Very accurate and useful over a very wide range of applications. Awesome on vermin and works well up to moderate sized big game. Should be perfect for antelope, etc. I'd love to have the chance to try them myself.

Although I only handload for my guns,my 25/06 loves the 115gr Nosler C/T Silvertips.The same bullets loaded in the Winchester factory ammo.
It'll shoot one hole groups with my handloads all day long.
The 100gr Sierra Game Kings and Match Kings shoot rally well also.

BP Hunter: The 26-06 is a great caliber and I have never seen one that would not shoot MOA. WE have a heavy barreled SAVAGE bolt gun I belive it is a 24 inch fluted SS barrel. But is extremly accurate less than an inch at a 100yds all day long. Our gun seem to like the 117 gr bullets the best, but it shoots any thing we put in it very well. Factory ammo we have used, Hornady 117 grs loads and Remington 120 gr loads and they seem to shoot very well in our rifle, and you can find and buy them most every where. Even my favorite place Wal-Mart. You have picked a great caliber and a great gun. Top of the line varmint rifle and a great hunting rifle. You picked well. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken
 
My Wbys and Steyrs both like stuff in the 100gr range best. But I'll have to echo what others have said about it shooting nearly anything exceptionally well, whether it be 85 grains or 120 grains. I've even had good luck with cheap Prvi Partizan 90 grain HPs. I can't complain on that, these rounds are reloadable and half the price of premium ammo, I just wouldn't hunt with them because there's much better options. Congrats on the new caliber, it's my personal favorite "06" cartridge.
 
We shot a lot of Federal 117, dad's .25-06 (Ruger M77V) was used mostly on varmints, a few times on antelope.
 
Depends on which 25/06 you are talking about. I have never shot factory in the Ruger #1, but my Sendero liked light bullets. Pretty much anything lighter than 100 grns worked really well. 110 grns and heavier it did not do as well with.

The Ruger #1 definitely likes heavier bullets. 120's work great in it.
 
The 1 in 10 inch twist favors 85 to 100 grain bullets. 110, 115, and 120's will not be as accurate as 100-grain bullets in most cases. I stick with 85's for coyotes; and 100 grain partition for deer. You can get 100 grain Barnes Triple Shock too. You will hear many different opinions on this. But I've Google the heck out of it; and came to the conclusion that 100 grain is for me. If you don't like the sound of 100 grain for deer; then I'd go with 115 grain Nosler Partition; Federal loads them in their Premium ammo. Read this Link:

That link made me almost decide on 115 grain partitions; but I'm sold on 100 grain; I will be using Nosler Custom Trophy Grade 100 Grain Partition; 3350 fps muzzle velocity.

The heavier bullets usually will be at least accurate enough to deer hunt with; but many people can't stand it if a bullet will not shoot sub MOA. I'm one of them; If a 115-grain shoots 1.5 inch groups; and 100 grain bullet shoots .75 inch groups; I'll got with the 100 grain.
 
I hunted with a 25-06 in the late 80's and early 90's...Hornady ammo was the best to be had then...117 grain Interlock bullets...nothing fancy, just accurate ammo that kills deer quick and clean.

I tried quite hard to beat the accuracy of that ammo with reloads...I never succeeded.

My 25-06 is a Ruger Hawkeye. Mine keeps very tight groups with two types of factory ammo. Both Federal premium Vital Shok 117grain Sierra Gamekings BTSP , and Hornady 117grain SST Interlock keep nice tight sub MOA groups at 100 and 200 yards. ( I don't have a place to practice further than 200 yards :( )

Now I am now where near the marksman of most of the gentlemen on this board , but even with my limited skills the 25-06 groups exceptionally well.

I have a mid 90's era BDL in 25-06. I handload for it but I do remember buying a box of Federal Premium 100GR that shot like crap in my rifle. I'm sure they've changed over the years but that was my experience.
 
My 25.06 will shoot 90% of all fractory very good. I do reload for it now. I reload for all center fire guns that I have
