It's Thanksgiving again, time to get together with friends and family, eat too much, watch football, and maybe even give thanks.

So, for what things related to shooting are you thankful?

For me, it's:

5) the great advice I get on THR, and the right to freely take part in the give and take here and elsewhere;

4) that I've managed to load so many rounds this year without losing an eye or a digit (we should all keep in mind how inherently risky the hobby can be);

3) for finding an awesome A-Bolt Bob;

2) that we still have the RKBA (though I pray that there aren't enough votes in the Senate to confirm a justice that will vote against it); and

1) finally being able to get my daughter to the range and seeing her face light up when she put that first .22LR round a cm from the bull. (She wants a LH bolt .22LR so she can try out for her college team in a year.)

The fact that, because of the second amendment, nobody is going to come and tell me to get in the back of the truck. Because, across this great country, they would have another thing coming.

"Modern sporting rifles" (aka Evil Black Rifles) becoming mainstream.

Massive spread of shall issue concealed carry the last couple of decades.

No public support (national level) for gun control.

living in the information age
getting a few new shooters to the range this year (two of which now have their own guns and pester me to open up the range)

I'm thankful for magnifying optics, lasers, meprolights, rail led lights, lighted reticle rangefinders, and other visual aids to help my failing eyes try to cope with their hamstrung operation.

Without them, I'd just be another old geezer who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, unless I closed my eyes.

The friends I made at the range. The friends and neighbors I currently go the range with. PRICELESS

I am thankful for:

1. The ability to own an AOW in the anti-gun state of California

2. My friend who recently had me take him shooting for the first time, he wants to buy his first handgun.

3. My opportunity to become an NRA certified RSO and Instructor at our local Boy Scout camp.

I sure do hope that we are able to keep our 2A and RKBA.

1 - A fiancée who loves and puts up with this curmudgeon.

2 - Being a citizen in this great nation.

3 - The military who made this great nation possible.

4 - The USMC who instilled honor and courage in me.

5 - Guns and gun buddies.

6 - And most of all the love of my Creator.

I'm thankful for my daughter taking all fresh pictures of my firearms for me for my inventory with the $1k camera I gave her for Christmas last year. Actually, she takes the pictures for me because she's afraid that I might break HER camera. But she still shoots all my guns.

The fact that even though I live in the gun-unfriendly state of New York, I still was able to obtain a full-carry permit that is valid for life. :D

That and the collapse of the Soviet Union, which gave us all these really cool Eastern Bloc milsurp handguns at great prices.

The Second Amendment
The people willing to defend the Second Amendment both in my state and the Nation
My dad and uncle taking me to shoot as a kid, and my mom getting over her aversion to firearms because I enjoyed it.

The Right To Keep And Bear Arms pretty much sums it up but beyond that I am thankful for everything firearms related. This is a fairly unique privelge we have and one that is taken for granted by too many people.

I've owned and shot firearms for about four and a half years, and almost every time I go to the range, I pause and reflect on how fortunate I am to be able to own and shoot the guns that I have.
My collection is modest by THR standards, but I have an example of every type of gun I've wanted to own, plus a couple of others, and I've gotten them all at very reasonable prices. Are there some that I still want/lust after? Sure... but the "important" stuff has been acquired.
I may live in NYS, but it's the *people* in my shooting life that make the experience of owning guns so much more bearable.
The guys at my range (amazingly laid back place outside of NYC) - a diverse bunch of good people.
The owner of my favorite LGS, a Yonkers cop who treats non-LEO with respect and has very reasonable prices.
And I'm grateful for the Internet, it's been an amazing way to connect with the broader shooting community and learn more, too.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Every gun and every round I can still legally buy; every season, every competition and range trip, every string, every shot I can still fire. I used to worry about the future of the sport till it made me sick. Now I've given up, stopped worrying and only enjoy the present.

I received the elusive full-carry, unrestricted NYS pistol permit a week ago, so I'm thankful the judge in my county likes me :).
