Lionking: Good final point about fishing, which reminds me of another aspect of Lauderdale.

If you are into boating, salt water fishing, scuba diving, windsurfing, waterskiing, sailing etc, then Fort Lauderdale is SUPREME. The Keys and Bahamas area day trip away, you cannot find a better "home port" for an all around "waterman" than Lauderdale.

In fact, if all you know is boats, you can make a living in Lauderdale just working on boats. It truly is "The Venice of America" and the yachting capital of North America. This means thousands of jobs selling, chartering, painting, building, varnishing, crewing etc etc boats.

If you love warm water sports.....Lauderdale is IT.

Another point about North East Fla. Hurricanes are VERY few and far between. The geography of the US causes practically all of them to miss us. The last serious storm was in the early sixties. Long Island, New York has more hurricanes than we do.

Florida Living

IMHO, Glock 10mm nailed it pretty good. I've lived in Boca Raton for 35 years and still love the place. As far as the old folks go, there are plenty in Boca, but remember, their parents live in Sarasota :>)
