Have any of you received the email from Fort Scott Munitions yet? They are offering to buy, and pay shipping, for customers unneeded supplies. They mostly want primers, powder and cases.
I guess they got my name from one of the places I've ordered mags and grips from, I don't buy from Fort Scott or reload.
Panics and shortages seem to be part of our lives anymore. I can't blame them for trying to reach out and insure they can keep up with demand.

Holy hazmat Batman!o_O
I would be wary of buying ammunition from a vendor that gets his inventory from the wild blue yonder. You don't know how it was stored and I can't imagine the legal liability of manufacturing ammunition made from such.

It reeks of desperation, shortcuts, cutting corners and certainly doesn't instill a sense of FSM making a quality product.:(

So, how do they know that the powder they are buying is Tac and not H-110?
Or graphite coated ant killer granules?

Remind me never to purchase ammunition from that place...
I do blame them for even considering buying powders from unknown sources, to make potentially hazardous ammo, just to turn a buck.

That’s not how that’s supposed to work.

Nothing on their FB page or web page about needing any supplies or paying for any supplies.

I can't imagine any such company doing that. Sounds like a rumor.

No rumor - I got the email too. They specifically asked mainly for primers, any maker, but enough that they could properly test them.

On another forum someone mentioned Super Vel ammo and lamented them not being around any longer. I went to Super Vel’s site to get the link address to post it for them when I found this “BYOP” page on their site. “BYOP” stands for “bring your own primers”.
https://supervelammunition.com/byop-program/

Fort Scott isn’t the only company looking for components in a strange fashion. It appears though that Super Vel would use your primers on your ammunition.

Since you can't ship primers or powder without a Hazmat certificate, what they are asking people to do isn't legal (at least not for most of us).

If a guy has components I can't see them paying to have someone else make ammo for them. I too wouldn't want ammo made from random people's unknown components . I did see what primers were going for on gun broker, smh.

They address this by having you buy the primers and having them shipped to them or they state making sure you have the proper hazmat accreditation.

I don't have a copy of the email mentioned by the OP, but according to his post the Fort Scott company is asking for your UNNEEDED supplies. That would seem to indicate they want what is already in your physical possession.

Further, I can't think of a reason why an individual would be set up to ship Haz. I used to be certified as part of a previous job and I can tell you firsthand it is NOT worth the trouble unless you are shipping some decent volume (which we were).

I have to wonder: why in the hell would anyone do what Fort Scott is asking (assuming all certifications were in order)? It certainly would appear that their own supply chain isn't able to keep up. That probably doesn't bode well for their future...

Understood. I'm not saying it's a good or bad idea, only that they're addressing the shipment of primers by individuals which seemed to be at question. I pasted their instructions below.

1) Purchase at least 1,000 SMALL PISTOL primers from any source (see below for some suggested links) and have them shipped to us, in your name, at our factory address of 950 W Warm Springs Rd #105, Henderson, NV 89011. If you already have primers and are a local, you can drop them off between 2pm and 5pm, Monday-Friday.

2) Notify us that the primers are coming with an email to [email protected] alerting us that you’ve purchased X-thousand (please provide tracking number if shipping) and that you’re having them shipped to our address (or dropping off).

3) When we receive your primers, we will reply to your email to let you know they arrived safely and will then send over a payable invoice. Once you have paid, the clock will start: we promise to have your ammo ready within 3 business days after receiving payment.

4) The minimum quantity for this offer is 1,000 primers; more is acceptable. There is no upper limit.

5) If you are shipping your own primers make sure you have the proper Haz Mat accreditation from UPS or Fed-Ex. It is essential to declare the package as Haz Mat. Avoid this by buying from one of the suggested sources because they already have the Haz Mat certifications (links below). This does not apply if dropping off at location.

6) Your ammo will be loaded and shipped within 3 business days of payment for your order. As always, we do not “mark up” shipping; our very substantial UPS discount is passed on to you. We charge you what UPS charges us. Not a cent more. For local drop offs, your ammo will be ready for pickup within 3 business days.

With all the pieces of the puzzle now available everything becomes a bit more clear. Obviously none of this was apparent to anyone who didn't have the email in front of them. Thank you for taking the time to post the email in it's entirety.

Another way around the primer issue would be to load them into cases. In this state they can readily be shipped USPS as for some odd reason the contents are no longer considered Hazmat. Of course if you had a way to punch out old primers and insert new ones you would be halfway to usable cartridge. That would seem to be a bit redundant for the purposes of the offer.

ETA: This whole idea seems ripe for confusion. I would presume most people who are having a company reload ammo for them wouldn't have the slightest idea what powder and/primers to buy.

Contrary to the OP's claims, I do not see where Fort Scott is paying anybody for primers or other materials. They are offering to make ammo for you if you sent them components. After they receive the components such as the primers, they will send you a BILL, an invoice you need to pay, to have your ammo manufactured and AFTER they receive payment for that ammo, make your ammo for you.

Or does somebody else have more of the email showing they are offering to buy stuff from individuals??? Why can't anybody actually post the whole email?

What I quoted was from their website. I didn't receive the e-mail so I'm not sure what that stated.

Yup, that was my first thought.

Quothe he, from my inbox:
Over the last few months, the COVID pandemic has brought on numerous challenges and changes for most of our society. This, in conjunction with the nearing Presidential election, has created a shortage of supplies used in the manufacturing of ammunition.

Thankfully, Fort Scott Munitions has been mostly unaffected by these shortages, but we want to beat the supply shortage that could happen. As November draws nearer, we find it increasingly hard to purchase the supplies we need to manufacture the ammunition you rely on. Many supply companies are already unable to fulfill orders, so it may be a matter of time before we, too, are unable to receive supplies.

Because of this, we are reaching out with a unique request. To beat the shortage, we want to purchase supplies from you, our loyal customers and friends. We know many of you have supplies on hand, and we are hopeful you'll help us out during this time. Let's lay out some ground rules.

  1. You will be compensated fairly and with an equal market value for your supplies.
  2. We will cover all shipping costs and fees, or arrange pickup.
  3. Our primary need is primers, but we are accepting powders and casings as well.
  4. We are open to all brands, as long as they are reliable companies, or if we have tested them or you are willing to let us test them.
  5. Larger quantities are preferred, but we will consider any amount if the price is fair.
  6. To ensure we continue to produce quality ammunition, we ask that you check the quality of your supplies. We cannot accept subpar supplies. Supplies must have been stored properly. Upon receiving your items, we will also do a quality check to ensure they are up to our standards. We will not use anything that does not meet or exceed our standards or industry standards.
To participate, please email [email protected] with information about what you can offer. If you don't have any supplies, but you know people who may, please still reach out to us and let us know. Please also reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions

If this is what they actually sent out then there's no question the average person has no way to legally comply as I mentioned before. Which is sidestepping the likelihood of any reloader sending some of their own supply out the door at a time when resupply is difficult.

I recently received an e-mail from an Albert Qaeda (he said to call him “Al”). He offered me cash for all of my firearms/ ammunition and sent me a photo of several pallets of money sitting out in some desert somewhere. I was suspicious!

That e-mail is somewhat different from what they have on their website. Having a customer send supplies, not knowing how they were stored, etc., is asking for trouble even if the customer can send them legally, which is another question. I reload, and using supplies that someone dropped off at my house is a non-starter.

it doesn't matter what type of powder it is, or its storage state. You take some out, ensure its not degraded, look at its grain size to get an idea of what it could be, and load rounds for transducer testing to get its exact pressure, and go on from there. This process is within the ability of any professional ammo maker. Still seems prohibitively expensive.

I can’t believe it has gotten this bad. I was telling my wife when this crap started that just in time delivery would be the death of many businesses.

I wasn’t aware that could be done.

As for the rest of components, I did check with my local secondary lead smelter, where I sometimes buy lead. They were offering certified bullet metal at something like $1.50 a pound about 8 months ago, and now 92/6/2 is over $2.50 a pound. Just an FYI.
