Wife told me to drop off a bag of clothes at the thift store today.

While Im there I always wander around looking for stuff I cant do without  Well Bingo in the big bin of junk kitchen knives I find 3 gems.
A boning knive, carving knife, and a really big I dont know what to call it.

$1.00 each. 1095 steel with a beautiful patina and wood handles.

Spent the afternoon sharpening and cleaning them:D
The big one has no name, but the other two say "Regent Cutlery"

Can never have enough good knives!!

Very funny John:D

Have cut 2 more sets of blanks and lock them up when Im not working on them.
One set will be stained and poly the other will be yellow enamal in honor of SM. (SSSHHHH dont tell him) figured out a way to make them interchangable.

All in all it is a slow labor of love that keeps this old man with only one good hand busy until the grandkids come home from daycare.
Anybody know what caliber for barney the the purple dino?:neener:

I went to a garage sale last fall and the fellow had a box full of knives and they cost me 2 bucks and he kept the box. There were some pretty expensive knives in there. I also found a nice Russel sheep knife at another sale for 50 cents. There is allwasy a few bargins around if you haunt enough garage sales.

Re: Big, don't know what to call it.

Go here first and see if one is like it:

If not, hop over to Industrial & Agricultural.

I won't tell sm you are coming up with a yeller/glow in the dark handle idea.
And I promised him I would not share his tip about glow in the dark items Health & Safety Officers like to have in industries. Like the light sandpaper tape for steps.

Re: Barney.
I am partial to slugs from a shotgun, followed by kerosene and matches.

Thanks Sm,

It is definately the 8' slicer.
so to recap
I got a boning knife, a butcher knife, and a slicer. in 1095 with a lot of character for 3 bucks.

Appreciate the secrecy on the yellow scales -grin snicker smirk.
As I said it has been a slow project but a fun one.

slugs, kerosene and matches, got it!!

Thanks again,stay safe and healthy.
Doc

I have the 8 inch butcher knife from that page in my closet right now. I meant to rehandle it but never got around to it :( maybe I should dig it out and work on it.
