Anybody else read them? What do you think about his columns?
I like his stuff calling the RKBA fight the 'soft war' before the hard war.
I'm curious about other's take on his columns.

I've never thought much of him...his stuff seems more Rambo fantasy than reality.

I think it's a good idea that he puts a little reading content into SGN, however there is a good bit of Rambo fantasy in there for sure.

Correia had a thread on TFL that spoke about the biggest myths of gundom. Fred has helped perpetuate a few in his columns. ;)

I agree he goes off in a Rambo vein, but his talk about the fight for RKBA being a soft war as opposed to a hard war seems to hit home. Somewhere I have a quote from Churchill about if you won't fight when you can win without bloodshed...

The last thing we need is more Rambo fantasies, we've seen plenty of threads at TFL and even a couple here already.

Has anybody used any of his AQT targets? Any good?

He responded to one of my replies once.

He was pooh-poohing owners of AK-47's, saying they didn't have much value as real riflemen when the blue helmets came tooling down the road for you.

I sent him a missive stating that I'd be more afraid of a guy with an AK who knew how to use it properly, than a guy with an FN-FAL or other battle rifle who shot it all of one time a year and displayed it in his gun cabinet the other 364 days.

Truthfully, unless you have a squad automatic or mortar and artillery emplacements, or a really good tunnel network, the blue helmets are gonna eventually overrun your position, sorry, Fred. But you do make a darned pretty M14 camouflage stock.

I never read it.

A gunsmith friend in Northern California, who actually had a subscription to Shotgun News, called me up just to tell me about his response. He thought it was funny that I managed to get under Fred's skin. And that's where I left it. :D

I should just knuckle under and get a subscription to Shotgun News and Gun List.

Fred's columns are (sometimes) entertaining, but his fantasies of how a battle would transpire show a lack of understanding of modern military technology.

A couple of months ago, he wrote a piece that had the good guys hiding in the field taking long range shots at a UN convoy. His guys would've stood out in a FLIR image like a bonfire at midnight, but that never occured to him. I doubt he knows what modern imaging equipment can do, whether airborne or satellite.

The thing he keeps forgetting is that if UN troops ever do march across the US, they won't be Abu and Mohammed; they'll be Billy Bob and Johnny and Joe. You'd have to figure on UN tactics and technology being the same as US tactics and technology, and if you want to see how well that can perform, take a look at what happened in Afghanistan.

In every Shotgun News, there are some things that I cringe when I see them. Fred's columns are one of those things.

The U.N. sucks but you won't ever see them invading this country in your life time. The scenario he described only works if the U.N. troops happen to be French.:D

I think it's nice that he thinks enough to write a pretty long column every week. It's also nice that he encourages people to develop their marksmanship. However, he disparages anything other than a 308. I can understand this as he sells M14 surplus but we need to get all firearms owners/shooters under ONE tent, not balkanize everybody. We already have enough factions and cabals, let's just accept anybody who has an appliance that emits projectiles.

Thought about making a yearly Tin Foil Hat award page on my website.

Fred would get honors.

Fred doesn't seem to realize that the best guerrilla weapon will likely be a .22 auto with a soda bottle taped on the barrel, at a range of 3' or so... Lot easier to take out a helicopter that way - they don't fly too well if you take out the crew while they're on "r & r."

Does he actually sell enough....

M14 stuff to support that column. I read the rambo stuff as entertainment, that's all. He must have another sideline as I don't think there are that many M14's out there. I have been the member of my shooting club for 10 years and I can count on one hand how many shooters I have seen shooting on the 200 yard line........chris3

I read his articles for the entertainment value.

I don't agree with a lot of his stands, but I do respect his dedication to the cause.

Yeah RIGHT!

I am a science geek to!

Ever see a 2KW Laser Fire?

Look in to this Industrial Firberopic cable I am pointing at you............

BURN BABY BURN! :fire:
