BRING BRIAN HOME BEFORE CHRISTMAS
The New Jersey Second Amendment Society
will be holding a rally to raise awareness of Brian Aitken's Situation.

The rally will be held on Sunday December 12, 2010
at the American Legion Post 129
on 2025 Church Road in Toms River, NJ

The event will begin at 2:00pm
Our goal is to petition Governor Christie to grant Brian Clemency
and release him to his family before Christmas.

Scheduled to appear:
NJ101.5 Radio Personality Dennis Malloy
Pro Second Amendment Attorney and Author Evan Nappen
Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll
Assembywoman Allison Littel McHose
and many others.

It is crazy the way this was handled. The problem is that it could happen to anyone in NJ. I cannot put my handgun in my car, go to work, then stop at the range on the way home. I have to drive all the way home, then to the range. What does this equal? Me not shooting as much because by the time i get home, i dont want to go out again. It is ridiculous that i cant stop anywhere on the way to the range. This is why things need to change now. Law abiding citizens in NJ are being punished.
 
FWIW, the state of NJ has been running a similar scam targeting hunters for years ! NJSP would spot out of state tags with bundles of gear and largely male passengers, follow them for a few miles then pull them over on some minor 'infraction'. Particularly at night. The usual 'charge' was "transportation/possession of firearms outside of hunting hours" or "illegal possession of firearms", if you pissed off the cop.

That ownership and possession was legal in both the home and destination states didn't wash ! Guns, ammo, and (in many cases) vehicles were impounded as "evidence" . By the time it was all sorted out the "perps" lost their guns, their vacation, possibly their vehicle and had a hefty legal bill to pay.

Ain't the PDRNJ just wonderful ?

And they treat their tax-payng gun owners in much the same fashion, too !! >MW
 
Remember that Activism is for working a plan of action, not for negativism and complaining (that's what Activism Discussion is for). We already know that NJ is one of the worst states for gunowners so there's no value in going on and on about it. Read the sticky on posting requirements and put some effort into trying to spread the word and help instead of bemoaning what we already know. IOW, roll up your sleeves and help instead of picking at people who live there or just complaining about the situation.

Alan Gottlieb to speak at NJ2AS Free Brian Rally

I am very pleased to announce that Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, and Chairman of the CCRTKBA will be making an appearance at the NJ2AS Free Brian Aitken Rally. Also in attendance will be NRA Board Member and ANJRPC President Scott Bach. Well known NJ101.5 Radio Personality Dennis Malloy has agreed to help with the proceedings, and many of our most supportive NJ Legislators, such as ASM Michael Patrick Carroll and ASW Allison Littel McHose will be speaking on Brian's behalf. The number one Conservative Blog Site - ConservativeNewJersey.com will also be well represented.

All in all it will be a GREAT program. But most importantly, we must keep the focus on petitioning Governor Christie to grant Brian a FULL pardon, and release him from prison in time for Christmas. THAT is the focus of the rally.

Brian's family has requested that any signs reflect the message that we are asking Governor Christie to pardon Brian. I am passing that request along to you. Thank you.

Hey guys, I'm in TN and can't do much but I did write Christie a letter. I wish I could do more. Good luck and God bless.

I've read about Brian's situation in Reason, and I will write Guv. I've alerted gun-owning and like-minded friends. I hope the event goes well (I'm in NC).

I hope he gets loose from this. I generally think Christie is a good man - he's delightful to listen to - he really should get behind this and help out Brian. From purely political standpoint, Guv would benefit greatly, I think - who is actually in favor of Brian being in jail, other than prosecutors wanting to notch a win?
 
I have lived here all of my life. I have lived in many other states while in the Marines, and i would never live anywhere else. (unless i could convince the wife to go to Montana or something!) I refuse to be pushed out of this state. Thats why we at the NJ2AS are going to make changes. I truly believe we will. We cant do it without support. Please, if you can , donate or join the NJ2AS!!

THE RALLY ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY DECEMBER 12, 2010
HAS BEEN CANCELED

Based on the wishes and concerns of Brian Aitken and the Aitken family, the New Jersey Second Amendment Society is canceling the rally originally scheduled for Sunday, December 12, 2010. We are canceling out of respect for the Aitkens and the suffering Brian is enduring.

We regret the short notice, but we were only just able to confirm Brian's wishes and concerns, through his attorney on the evening of Sunday, December 5.

Perhaps the authorities have recognized the folly of keeping this guy imprisoned for years on a violation that would not have been a violation at all in a saner state."

I think that's awesome that you wrote to Gov. Christie.
I hope it has some effect - as I understand it, most state and federal
level representatives have their staff filter out correspondence from people not in their state or district.
It's entirely possible that governors do the same.
I'm not knocking your efforts in any way... it's unfortunate that although just about every decision made by any politician can potentially affect us, *their* attention is often highly selective.

Everything you said in your post confirms that I was doing exactly the right thing when I drove out to Lake Wallenpaupack for a weekend of target shooting - I diligently chose a route that bypassed NJ. I wasn't specifically aware of that happening in the state, but you sure confirmed my suspicions.
I hear Massachussetts is similarly predatory, a big reason for my not going through that state on my way to Vermont back in June.
 
In theory yes, but the modern reality is, political offices don't ignore anything. They tally every correspondence of every type they receive. They have learned the hard way that they ignore these at their own peril. This is why the have inters and staffers tracking and filing EVERYTHING.
 
His sentence was commuted but no pardon was issued. So it's a win for Brian of course, being out of prison, but it leaves him a convicted felon.

For now we'll close this thread since the Activism portion of this seems to be done.
