Free-Floating Rails.....Recommendations?

Ok, I have been looking for rails for my AR for the last month and cant decide on which to go with. I am stuck between Daniel Defense, Midwest Industries, and Samson. Is any one better than the next? I think Samson and DD are both Mil Spec.....

I like the 9.5-10" rails because it gives a little extra room for things if necessary.....what do you guys think or recommend? Going with a 7" Carbine rail or getting the extra length for space? Thanks

Is this a new build, or are you retrofitting them onto an existing upper? If you're retrofitting an existing gun, the Omega Rail from DD is dead nuts simple to install. The hardest part is getting the OEM hanguard off. The other rails may require you to dismount the barrel or remove the gasblock/FSB from the barrel to install, I'm not sure. The DD Omega does not.

However, if this is a new build, I would go with the DD Lite rail over the Omega. There's nothing wrong with the Omega, it's just designed as a retrofit, and the DD Lite is designed to be installed on a disassembled gun. IIRC it is very slightly cheaper because of this, and is more secure (though this is mostly theoretical- the Omega is plenty solid).

The Lite is actually the most expensive. The 9.5 FSP M4 rail is the same as the Lite, but just a tad heavier. At least, that's what I understand from DDs website.

I don't care if I have to disassemble the rifle, I am seeing is people get the standard size carbine rail or if there is the need for the extra length. I'd eventually like to get a light, foregrip, and I don't know what else. But I don't know if the 7" is enough.... I've been looking at pics of peoples with different rails and accessories so I can see but not much luck

Don't know if you plan on adding a bipod with a FG, but if you do, you might want to consider a longer rail than a 7". A friend has a 7" Larue on his and it works ok, but it's a tight fit to get your hand between the bipod and FG.

don't put a bipod on there... just use the magazine as a monopod

what coronach said... get the DD (or larue)
the lite rails are awesome.
