Acquaintances will talk about guns.
Friends will show you their guns.
Good friends will give you free ammo.

Was over at a friend's house for a get together and we got to talking about guns. The guys all went upstairs to the gun safe, and he handed me 80 rounds of .223 and 50 rounds of .45. Thanks Dave, you are a great guy. Even though you wouldn't give me any of the Black Talon in 9mm, you are still a good guy. (There was some discussion about whether or not those are legal for us non LEO. Dave is and has been a LEO for some time, so he is in fact legit even if they are LEO only. I guess I should look that up.)

Er... There's no legal restrictions on Black Talon. Ranger SXT rounds are colloquially called "Same eXact Thing" because they're Black Talon's without the black coating (though I think they actually did some re-engineering on the SXT recently)

Is there some state law somewhere I don't know about...?

The whole LEO only thing that ammo companies do is an internal company policy (more like a marketing ploy) about who the company will sell to. There is no actual law about who can own/carry/use the ammo. IANAL but I believe the only ammo you can't buy legally as a civvie is armor piercing handgun ammo, which is pretty rare (FN FiveseveN, maybe a few others).

Heck, one of the guys I've been shooting trap with every week lent me a shotgun. I barely know the guy!

I'm absolutely paranoid that the thing will develop a spot of rust on it. Even though I clean it after handling and keep it in an air conditioned room.

Unless it is some kind of armor piercing ammo there are no Federal or state laws regarding ammo.

Back in the 70s I used to buy WW standard velocity SWCs that were over runs made for NYPD. The boxes were marked "LE Only".

As Double Tap said it's only a marketing ploy.
