Front Sight training - is this a scam?

My brother in law sent me this add from Front Sight. Any opinions on this? Is Front Sight a good school? It offers a free Springfield XD45, training manuals and a 30 state CCW for $2,000.00

2,000 seams kind of expensive for this package. The gun is less than 600 bucks and the Florida permit is not too expensive. I believe you can get an NRA basic pistol course which runs about 150.00or less. Actually for Florida non resident you take your state hunter safety course you can get a Florida Non Resident CCW permit. I guess the bulk of the dollars is for the training but I don't know anything about Front Sight.

I would like to see the Dry Fire manuals though. I love to dry fire and if someone has a better practice method I'd like to see it.

I heard about it earlier this year. It was a valid offer, pay now take the course when you can match with their course schedule.

front sight is a great training facilty..they are right up there with thunder ranch or any other...not a scam. you know how much timeand money you would have to put into getting ccw permits for 30 states ? if I were interested in ccw in 30 states,id do it.

Or you could just get a Florida permit and be good for about the same number of states, if numbers is what you're about.

It's true...and $1199, not $2000. Read the offer carefully. Lots of threads on this facility. Generally, the reports are that the training is good and professional.

It depends on what you want.

If all you care about is the CCW, go with the NRA class (I teach them, so I'm familiar with content). If you really want to learn to shoot, the Front Sight course is quite good. Do remember, the front sight course is FAR more than just learning pistol basics.

If you really want everything they are offering, it is an OK deal. It is definitely not special or great.

It's where Mark Wahlberg learned to shoot for "Shooter", and he was hitting targets 1100 yards away the second day. A neighbor was an instructor there - yes they have good training.

Since any army takes years to train a good sniper somehow I find it unlikely that an actor is going to to be hitting man size targets at a thousand meters in 2 days.

The Army sniper school is 5 weeks long, and includes a ton of field craft and odd shooting scenarios. Not so much raw shooting. Graduates are expected to get 90% hit rates at 600M targets. 1000M is possible, but not necessarily consistent. Teaching 1000M raw target shots in 2 days is not out of the question, especially to a naturally gifted athlete like Wahlberg in private lessons.

Plus, Wahlberg has had previous training for other roles, so he's not a total newbie.

I just took a NRA instructor course from a couple of guys associated with Front Sight. They stayed focused on the course at hand, but referenced there experience a bunch.

NRA offers instruction in basic pistol which can be used to fulfill a requirement for the Florida CCW. NRA does not offer a CCW course.

They have good training, however their financial grounding is beyond merely "shaky". They managed to kill somebody recently on a bunch of goofy rope slides, the financial hit from that probably hasn't hit yet. Other money issues...wow. You wouldn't believe me if I could tell you. Go visit courthouses in Clark and Nye counties Nevada, look at the legal wreckage...ooops.

Upshot: DO NOT give them gobs of money for anything (services, guns, training, land, whatever) that you expect to get later. You have been warned.

Sigh...look, in terms of anything involving you giving them money: any initial offer will look good. It will likely be at least decent or better. It's a lure to get you doing business with them, and the ladder of money for long-term memberships, part-ownership of grandiose projects, etc...well it gets wilder and wilder. People have lost six figures or more with these guys. Kinda like a Nigerian scam, looks good at first, gets weirder and weirder. Come to think...same as Scientology...huh, big surprise, Piazza is a "Clear"...hmmm...

As stated, DO NOT pay in advance and expect them to still be there. A lifetime membership could be worthless tomorrow. Do a basic background check before spending one cent!!!!
