FTF on SIG 220 Carry SAO

I have a new SIG 220 Carry SAO that won't feed the last round. The slide moves the round part way out of the magazine. It and the other eight round mag take turns doing this. I've put about 300 rounds through the pistol since I got it earlier this year. The first couple hundred rounds did okay, but now its starting to be a problem.

I called SIG and CS said to load it with rounds for 24 hours, take them out for about an hour and load them up again for another 24 hours for 4-5 days. Says the mag spring needs to be loosened.

Any ideas? Does SIG CS sound like a solution?:)
 
Give that a try.
Did you take the mags apart and completely clean the Sig goo out of the mags when you bought the gun?
If not, do that first.

I guess Plan B is to slaughter a chicken and burn the bones at the altar of Thor. :p

By all means, follow their advice first. It's a possible solution - cleaning the mags out is another.

I question the competence of the fellow from SIG giving you that advice.

Since you shot a couple hundred rounds before the problem started, how'd the spring get tighter (stronger) with use?

In my shooting experiece if its not dirt/fouling causing intermittent last round feed failures, its pretty much always a weak magazine spring that is not pushing the round up under the extractor for the last shot.

Clean the mag and the gun, especially under the extractor. If that fails get a replacement extra power mag spring from www.gunsprings.com (Wolff).

I'm betting against the chicken sacrifice, and besides the long lines at the altar of Thor this time of year is a real drag.

Go over to the SIG Forum and check around there. I've talked to a couple of people who have had this problem and was told that its due to the extractor on some of the early guns. From what I've read over there, SIG is aware of it and has addressed it.
 
I ran (simulated) the rounds through the pistol using a seven rounder I have and didn't experience the problem. I down loaded seven rounds in the eight round mags I'm having problems with, and the last round wouldn't feed. It would only move part way up the breech face, but the extractor was hooked over the case rim where its supposed to be. I'll have to get on the range again and using the seven rounders, see if they hang up in actual firing. I've used them before in my 220 DA w/o any problems. All mags are Sigs for now.
 
Sounds exactly like what happens when the mag spring is too weak. I bet the seven rounders will be fine because since they pushed the last round al the way up the breech face.

Its the magazine springs job to do this on a "controlled feed" design firearm.
