Fun time at the range.

My son and I had a chance to run up to the range this morning. So we grabbed a asst of rifles we haven't shot in awhile. Mossberg 340 KB .22, Remington 541T-HB .22, Ruger 77/22, .22 Hornet and last a old Stevens 325 30-30. I picked up the Stevens for 50.00 bucks. Nice shape except for the "ear" of wood behind the bolt handle is missing. Kinda common on these. Never shot it before. I grabbed 50 rounds of 150gr cast WW loads. First 3 shots @ 50yds I thought I missed. But all 3 were in the 2" black bull in a quarter size group. So at that point we started shooting the clay pigeons we laid on the 100yd berm and proceeded to bust them all with that old Stevens with it's plain open sights. 40 with 42 shots. I was pretty impressed with that old economy rifle. Unfortunately It's the 1st model not D&T for scope mount or receiver sight. But for now I'll leave it as is. We used the scoped rifles to bust the pieces. That was a fun surprise.

Its always fun to pick up one of the old semi neglected guns and find its better than remembered. Makes us wonder why we've been letting it just sit there.

Glad you could go shoot with your son. I find those are the best range trips. My guys are good shots and often out shoot me.

Any day at the range is good and sharing it with family and friends makes it better. Love the story about the 'nothing fancy' rifle that shoots like gold. Reminds me of a trap shoot where I was using an old inherited Sears 12 ga. bolt action shotgun that probably cost a few bucks and looked like crap. I had a good day and outscored some guys using $5,000 guns. I thought they might be annoyed. Turned out they all wanted to use it for a round and came back all smiles. It brought back memories of their first shotguns and just how much could be done with them. I still smile thinking about it.
