Howdy. I'm new to the board. Name's Surge, I'm a Texan and have an insatiable taste for antique firearms. Nice to meet you all!

Have you ever set eyes on a gun name and just couldn't stop saying it? Share it! I'd have to say the funniest gun name I've ever heard was "Fallshirmjägergerwehr 42 Rifle." I dare you to beat that.

"Kalashnikov" just rolls off the tongue. Very pleasant to say. Sounds like a ballet troupe.

The opposite is "Krag"; kinda sticks in your throat.

Ceska Zbrojovka. Once you figure out how to say it, kinda interesting.

Or how about the cheapest possible ammo I've ever used...UltraMax.

Back in my school days I used to scribble in my notebook and came up with fake names for real guns:

Grock
SIG-Sour
Cult 1911
Brauning
Heckle and Cough

:D

Fosbury

borchardt and a frendh WWI mchine gun that is pronounced "ShowShow", but I have not idea how to spell the name.

Sho-Sho: Chauchat Machine Rifle, one of the worst abortions ever called a gun... designed by committee and a total piece of junk. Foisted on US troops by the French instead of the better and U.S made Lewis gun in use by Brit troops.

I agree on Manlicher. Nice stock, but makes me snicker just a bit.

I also smile whenever I see a Taurus 'Raging Hornet'. Now, I've been stung by a couple raging hornets before, so I know they can be serious, and the gun is pretty cool. Just kinda brings a WB Cartoon type image into my mind...

The original spelling of the post is badly misspelled.

The corrected spelling of the original post:

Fallschirmjaegergewehr

Germans are fond of compound nouns (smaller nouns run together in one large word to create a cumbersome, more specific noun; this is not their worst habit, if we consider invading Poland).

Working backward, "gewehr" is a rifle, "jaeger" is a hunter, and "fallschirm" is a parachute.

Thus, the admittedly awkward English rendition would be "parachute hunter's rifle."

English speakers would render it more idiomatically as "paratrooper rifle."

See- not so funny after all.

Not quite in keeping with the intent of the thread, I know, but my favorite funny gun name is Mas Ayoob’s snubby, Fluffy. I'm not sure which is funnier though, the name Fluffy, or Ayoob’s rationale for the name. :D
