Discovery Channel UFC matches?

Since the Discovery Channel seems to be straying pretty far from its original charter in the search for ratings...

How about UFC matches with guys from their shows? I want to see Mack up against Bear Grylls. Seems fair to me.

If they really want to go for ratings they could compete with other networks. How about Mack and Bear against some of the Ax Men? My money is on the bald logger with the hacked-up arm.

I'd like to see Les Stroud (from Survivor Man) to go against Bear Grylls...

maybe Bear could sue some camera tricks to his advantage...

Les Straud is hardcore. If Bear fought against him, he'd have to get his camera team to help him win the fight. The cameras would turn off and next thing you know, Les would be tied up on the floor. Bear did it himself, alright.

Or they'd have a scene where Bear explains how to win in a fistfight, and then there'll be a commercial break, and when they come back he'll be standing there saying "Well, I didn't win this fight, but if I had, here's how you'd go about properly restraining your defeated opponent..."

I saw the teaser trailers being aired on Discovery before the series started. That was enough for me. Havent seen a single episode.

If i want gun shows ill watch "Tales of the gun" on History Channel. There everything doesnt have to be so damn cool and and tactical all the time.

Does anyone else get the feeling that everything on Future Weapons, and to a lesser extent the Discovery & History Channels are just an advertisement for some weapons system?

.50 Beauwolf, chey tac, Grendel, Tasers etc. I wonder which products are up for big Pentagon Projects?

I liked the show at first, but once I TVO'ed em and watched em back to back it felt like I was watching QVC and a phone number was going to scroll across the bottom of the screen or that guy from CHIPS was going to offer me a free flight to Arkansas.

Well, to be fair, the Discovery channels (including TLC, Military, etc.) are focused on entertainment. They are not R&D shops testing and evaluation items and techniques. When they focus on a subject, they go to the source and request camera time and information on their product. Certainly they wouldn't showcase their product in a negative light. And, if the channel did offer the negative side, do you think the source would allow them to air it?

The History channels (including A&E, International, etc.) are a little more objective as they do provide the viewpoints of most sides and their subject matter is a bit more general and not as focused on a particular item.

Right, except about three-quarters of the time the writers would have been better served by putting down whatever kids book they're cribbing from, and looking up the subject matter on Wikipedia. FFS, is it too much to ask that they hire writers who actually have some remote inkling of what they're writing about?

I'm just happy to see gun-related content on mainstream TV. If he spoke like Tiny Tim I'd still watch it.

No argument here. In the end they too are also in the entertainment business.

I have an idea. Why don't you guys do the most logical thing. Shoot your Television, repeatedly, shoot for group, shoot for pattern, shoot for penetration, whatever just shoot the dang thing. You will be happier now.

Sorry to rehash this thread... But I figured if I made my own thread about it, that it'd get deleted.

They must read this forum... I watched it tonight... the host guy didn't whisper once.

The whole time he was talking like a normal person. Now I can watch this show without being so annoyed I have to turn it!!!!

YES!

i saw an episode yesterday, they had a hk sub gun of some type that they claimed was the first innovation since the thompson.

he explained the 45acp kicked like a "mule".must have had s s&w airweight chambered in 45.

Okay, I'll admit that Bear isn't the most authentic, but seriously people, do you honestly believe that a Canadian is gonna beat a SAS in a fist fight?

Whispering vs "elevated" voice

I think this may just be habits.

Drill Instructor: Yelling, loud
Sneaky SEAL Sniper: whispering

or more likely: The producers thought it would be cool (both ways). :D
