I have a dilemma. I want to buy 2 guns, but only have enough money to buy one. The choices are: Glock 19 and Glock 21 SF. Whichever one I end up getting is going to be a 3rd gen, of course. I want the G19 because 9mm is cheap and available. I also like the G19 because I have a G26 and it the 19 would be a great primary piece. The 21SF, on the other hand, is chambered in .45, which I need to round out my set up. I am familiar with the large frames in SF because I've owned a 10mm 20SF (Sold it about a year ago, for a damn good price too!). Having 13+1 rounds of .45 power...Well, that's just awesome! The price and availability of .45 ammo is the only factor that is tipping me more towards the G19 over the G21SF. What do you guys think? Based on the answers I receive, it may end up being the deciding factor, depending on what useful pros/cons I learn from those who have previous experience with these aforementioned guns.

It would be a matter of grip size for me.

The standard Glock 21 is on the very ragged edge of being too big for me to comfortably hold one handed. I've never held a 21SF

I've got and regularly carry a Glock 19.

There currently are a few different versions of the Glock 21SF. I don't know if Glock is going to continue all the models or settle on one style and carry it forward. If you like one of the 21SF's better than the others, I'd buy that first because you don't know if it is going to continue.

I really like the G21SF version with the Glock rail and single side mag release. I dislike the other G21SF versions enough that I'd buy a regular G21 before those other 21SF models, and I have small hands.

The Glock 19 will always be available so there is no hurry.

I ended up buying the Glock 19 over any of the other models because of how well the grip fit my hand. I have had the opportunity to hold many 21SF's and I still felt that they were too large for my hands.

I would have to go with the 21sf w the glock rail as well. In my eyes the .45 acp will always trump the 9mm.

You can't go wrong with either. I selected the G19 primarily b/c you state you already have the G26. The combination of ammo and mag compatibility is what I see as the primary advantage. Also, Ammo cost is a HUGE consideration. I see you practicing more with the G19 b/c ammo cost is lower. However, the G21SF is also nothing to sneeze at.
Either choice is fine, you'll be happy with either.

If price is a factor and you don't reload, get the 9mm. Ammo costs less than half of what .45 ACP does.

If you're worried about the power factor, you can double the power of the 9mm by pulling the trigger again.

Glock will probably stop making the 21-SF with Picatinny rail. So what ?

The 19 is very similar in size and function to the already owned 26, so what are you gaining, really ?

I fully understand about the economics of ammo. If that would keep you from shooting a .45, then a 9mm seems to be the better choice for you.

Instead of the 19, I'd look real hard at the G-34. It's different enough in size and function from the 26, yet is ammo and magazine compatible.
