Hey all.

I've recently been hired on at our local gander mountain here to sell guns. It will either be a really rewarding gig were i get to hook people up with the guns they need for whatever purpose they need them for, or it will be like working at a walmart for splody stuff. Hope it's the first one, not the later.

Anyways.

While doing the interview for the job the manager asks me if i know anything about ARs because they are being allowed by corporate to order them in special for folks and some select stores are even being allowed to carry them in stock as a trial run.

How cool is that!

We'll see what they do with this.

More to come..................

Progess is progess... any word as to what manufacturers they will carry?

I would still support my local dealer before a big box store though, he already has them hanging on the wall. Along with alot of other scary looking black rifles.

No i'm not sure what brands they intend to carry.

I agree about the big box thing. I even applied at the small retailers in the area first hoping i would get to work for small buisness as huge corporates tend to turn me off. Dunno how i feel about working for one yet.

I posted on this a week or so ago after I saw a Bushmaster AR for sale at my local GM.

Sorry, wasn't meant as a criticism, just an observation.

Congrats on the job, btw. GM's not a bad place to work.

The local, (Texarkana), Gander Mt. has AR's, and will soon be carrying Wilson pistols and accessories. :D

The new GM in Blaine has a couple of Bushmasters with 16" barrels, one Bushmaster Varminter (24"), and one of the new Smith & Wesson ARs (MP15? whatever it's called). Of course, they were away from the other guns, behind the gunsmith counter...but at least they had them.

Quite a selection of 1911-type pistols, too.

I liked it when I worked there. You get a 20% discount on anything in the store (other than new firearms. You do get the discount on used firearms, though). Also, several times per year, Gander Mountain will have an employees-only shopping event, in which you get a 30% discount on anything in the store (including used firearms), and 20% on most new firearms.

My paycheck pretty much when right back into the store.

Often times you will see threads here about "some dumb gun-store clerk". Well now you'll get an opportunity to see the myriad of dumb gun-store customers . Like the ones that can't figure out which end of a scope to look through, the ones that mount their scopes on their rifles backwards (and then call the store for help), the ones that call and complain that the bore-sighting the gunsmith did is still way off at 100yds, the ones that come in near closing time to buy a rifle/shotgun and tell you about the hunting trip they are taking their new weapon on tomorrow at 6am (as they are having the gunsmith bore-sight a tasco pellet-gun scope on their new cannon).

You'll get a few laughs out of it. I always tried to remember that everybody started somewhere, and not everybody is an expert. I tried to help, tactfully, when I could.
