Gander Mountain's Used Guns

My GM has a S&W airweight .38 Bodyguard right now, used, behind the counter for $499! I pointed out to them that new ones regularly sell in the $350 range and when they pulled it up on the computer they found that they had been charged $375 for the gun by the pawn shop.
For a big company they don't seem to be up on things. I bought a S&W M638 (the .38 Airweight Bodyguard you mentioned above) from Cabela's NIB for $379. The 2006 S&W Catalog has them for $480 list and the current price on the S&W web site is $498. How can GM even try to sell a USED M638 for $499?? What a joke!

Normally GM will give your 70% of blue book value on a gun you bring to them, depending on condition. If the buyer (GM) doesn't read the correct price and overpays for the gun, they must then mark it up to cover cost and keep margins. They don't price their used guns based on anything else.

ie - just saw a NAA Black Widow 22 mag for $159.95 at GM, new on gunbroker etc they're around $250 or so... it's all based on how much they paid for the gun.

:scrutiny: just keep an eye out, although the local one here is having a 40% off sale on guns this weekend, or so I hear.

The one by me actually has that sale going on to, and there were a ton of rifles and shotguns and a few pistols on a series of tables right in the hunting section. Strangely enough a lot of the guns looked very beat up. I mean i know they're used but some looked as if they actually were rusting and such. That being said i saw they still had the Bersa for 160... but for some reason i couldn't bring myself to buy it or rather put it on layaway. I don't know why that is but i think i might just save up for a gun i'm more interested in, because truthfully i don't think i'm very interested in a .380 in spite of the fact that i'm sure it would be adequate at a range i would use it for CCW and i've read nothing but nice things about these guns. Bah maybe i'll go up there later and get it...

I bought a Taurus PT111 Titanium LNIB for $190.00, and a Springfield Armory WWII LNIB for $300.00. Both of them I thought were deals.
I saw a super clean XD9SC for $300. When I went back 15 minutes later to put money on it and the price had risen $75. Seems that someone priced it wrong.
On the other hand they had a Marlin 39 with a replacement forend that looked like a beaver had gnawed on it for $400.
It seems sometimes mistakes are made, there, like everywhere else. Sometimes in their favor and sometimes in "ours"

Check around, Try gunbroker.com The local Gander Mountain here has crazy prices on used and new guns as well. used Glocks for 550.00-650.00. Usually for their used gun prices I can buy the same new elsewhere.

Hey Mike:

I know this is an old thread, but I also know you're still interested in getting a pistol sometime soon. So, as long as the thread has already been reactivated, I'll respond. The Gander Mountain in Pontiac or Waterford (whichever is right by the OCSD) has some "issues" I won't buy from them.

They lied to me about the proposed selling price of a pistol that they were buying from me. They used that same lie to drive downward, how much they would pay me for my used pistol. I walked in a few days later to follow-up and see the selling price...in the end, they sold the used pistol for only about $20.00 less than a new one. :scrutiny: Go figure.

I also bought a used Rem 870 from them and it was defective. While they did fix it, they raised a fit about having to do so. Well, in the end, I decided I really do not want to do business with them.

Your best prices in our area is Guns Galore, Fenton, MI. Their prices on pistols average about $50.00 less than Gander Mountain, about $100.00 less than Double Action, and close to $150.00 less than Target Sports.

Good luck,

Doc2005

For the fun of it I carried my Kimber 9mm 1911 in to see what they would pay for it...It had about 2 mags run thru it...they offered $450.00 lol :fire:

It is the only place I know where you can buy a used gun and get a 1 year warranty.

If you buy a used S&W, Taurus, or hell, quite a number of name brands, you get a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer. Who needs a warranty from an overpriced store with an unknown quality gunsmith when the manufacturer warranty is included for the life of the product?

I picked up a SIG P6/P225 police trade in for $300.00+t. Action is like new, slight holster wear (but I don't care, cause thats what I do to it). Works/shoots/runs perfectly. I can't complain. You just have to be choosy about what you look for. The inventory of used stuff changes constantly, so you just have to keep an eye out.

Bersa has a lifetime warranty. go ahead and get it. on the 1 in 1000 chance it doesn't work, they'll take care of you.

Is it just a basic blued Pro Carry II, or another model? Does it have any other optional features such as night sights? A basic Pro Carry II in 9mm has a suggested retail of $868, and generally sells new for about $800.

Considering what dealer cost probably is, $450 is a pretty reasonable offer.

I picked up 2 N-frames there. the 1st one was a 90%+ 28-2 for $250. the second was a 95% 6" model 27 for $390. I REALLY like gander:)

Haha thanks Doc. I definitely know that GM is way overpriced now, they're trying to sell Colt 1991's for 1000! This thread makes me think that I should get a chea...er inexpensive gun for now while i'm saving up for a Colt, and the bersa still looks good to me :D

asknight...aren't those lifetime warranty's only good to the original purchasers?

Absolutely not. At least in the case of Smith & Wesson, Taurus, and Sig. Those are the only warranties I've had to make a claim on and those companies handled it as if I'd just bought the weapon. I understand that Ruger, Remington, and many other reputable manufacturers are honoring a lifetime of the weapon warranty, even Hi-Point.

When you go to trade in/sell a gun, and for all they knew that's what you wanted to do, You want to SELL the gun. They don't necessarly WANT to buy it. You asked what it was worth to them. They told you. <shrug> I probably wouldn't have offered you that much.

The GM here in Wichita seems to have recently increased their prices on used firearms. However, their staff is courteous, friendly, and generally knowledgeable. As far as gunsmith's; I think their staff 'smith's are pretty competent, and willing to answer questions, and provide guidance. I will buy from them anytime I can.

I saw a ruger p95 at gander it looked brand new but it said it was used. It had to be the best condition I have ever seen a used ruger in. Anyway, it was $299 and I was considering buying it. I don't know if that was a good price....should I have gotten it?

Anthony, its not an excellent price by any means. A quick search on gunbroker showed a few NIB P95's for around 300, or exactly 300. If its in good condition though and you want it, you can always justify it by saying its a good price to anyone who asks though :D Also see if they'll lower the price, the worst they can say is no.

I am not old enough to buy a handgun yet :)
but i did buy a used mossberg 500 at gander mountain. It was in very good condition. no rust or corrosion although it was a synthetic/ parkerized deer gun. The gun did need a little cleaning because it had a little powder residue in the barrel an on the inside top of the reciever but overall a great gun at about $100 under factory price.

Guns Galore in Fenton is very good on price and selection. They seem to believe that the purpose of a retail establishment is to move merchandise and they price it accordingly. Another good place in SE Mich is Michigun in St Clair Shores, they primarily carry the higher end pistols, but their used prices are very reasonable.
