Just got a new Garand. Bought a bore guide. One of those black plastic (Delrin) things that attach to the end and gently guide the cleaning rod through a center brass guide without messing up the crown on your bore. Have used them previously on other rifles. Rod and jag go through the device perfectly. But a .30 cal. jag with a 30. cal patch on it wouldn't go through it if you whammed it with a hammer. Seems like the brass hole is too small. Dirty words won't work, either. Is there a better bore guide out there? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any advice.

Moderators: if this should be in a different category, please move it. Wasn't sure where to put it. Thanks.

Yes, you're doing it wrong. The bore guide slides on the rod, then the jag or brush is screwed on. Insert the brush in the bore, then slide the guide on over the muzzle. Or you can put the guide on the muzzle, insert the rod with no attachments, push the rod through, screw your jag or brush on at the breech end, and pull it through. The guide wasn't made to run brushes and jags through. It makes it more awkward but it's better than boogering up your muzzle.
