hoghunting, if you have personal knowlege or recognize the individuals, that is one thing. From the pictures, I cannot tell.

Secondhand testimony is not always 100% reliable, so it is understandable that PabloJ would use the "could be" phrase.

Not trying to be argumentative, just pointing out that there may be uncertainty, as if there is hard evidence in this thread, I have not seen it.

Like Jeff White, I am looking forward to the after-action report for all the facts that I believe are pertinent to us: make, model, caliber, distances, rounds fired, use of cover (or not), bad guy firearms, use of cover (or not), use of body armor (or not). etc.

Just like Miami, just like Mumbai, you learn what worked and what didn't, maybe some indication of why, what the bad guys are doing differently now, and how that might prepare you in the future.

In the meantime, everyone is going to the range this Mother's Day weekend and shooting 6" paper plates at 50 feet from the draw, with a timer, right? :)

Yep...same way in San Antonio never mind the duck and goose ponds and fields towards Katy that are now swimming pools and soccer fields.

I'm wondering how long Carter's and Hot Wells have to go.

    Oh well...progress.

Any of y'all remember the bank shootout in California where the two guys with head to toe body armor flat held down a battalion of cops using 9MMs because none of their patrol cars at the time were allowed to carry "assault rifles"? :banghead: They have them now.

Maybe its because we live in DFW and have local media showing daily press conferences/interviews with Garland PD...........that we KNOW those are Garland PD.

On other gun forums there are several DFW area LE who have recognized the individuals in the photos posted in this thread......as GPD officers.
Mercenaries? Private security? Ninjas? Get a grip on reality and understand that:
    1. Those men are not security guards. Security guards in Texas must be "commissioned" in order to openly carry a handgun.
    2. Texas law does not permit security guards to carry firearms other than handguns or shotguns.....every man pictured in this thread has an AR.
    3. Texas law requires security guards to display their name, company name and the word "SECURITY" in a conspicuous place.
    4. NEVER, NOT ONCE, has there been ANY mention about armed security guards on duty at the event. In fact, it has been reported ad nauseum that the wounded Garland ISD security officer WAS UNARMED.
    5. DFW area TV and radio have had several interviews with event participants....every one interviewed told of Garland PD escorting them to safe areas deeper inside the conference center.....not a single one said it was a security guard.
    6. Mercenaries? Please. That's just laughable.

And every single police officer in DFW remembers the "Takeover Bandits" from 2004.......plenty of Plano, Richardson and Garland officers spent their own $$$ to buy AR's after this: (this shootout occurred five minutes away from where the Garland shootout happened)

If you look closely at the right shoulder of one of the guys in the photos, you will see a Garland Police patch on his right shoulder.

The group shot shows the Garland SWAT with the main speaker of the event.

There is no doubt who these guys were, and that they were there before the event started, hence the pic with the speaker.

The officer that shot the two bad guys was in fact a traffic cop working the event. The guy with him was a Garland ISD (Independent School District) security officer and he was unarmed. He's the one who got shot in the ankle. The Garland ISD owns the event center property and usually has one of their people on scene during events.

This has all been reported numerous times by Garland PD via local media.

dogtown tom couldn't have said it any better. I have clients and friends who are GPD officers, and since many gunshops in the DFW area don't give discounts to LEOs, Tom also has clients and friends in the local PDs. Most venues in the DFW area hire the local PDs for security as the officer has jurisdiction in that city and is able to ticket or arrest, a security guard can't. A PD officer can also have backup much faster as he has his radio instead of dialing 911.

I think the LE was a very well trained shooter. I don't think it would have mattered what weapon he had. My opinion.

It might take awhile and even then it will be leaked information because it will be more than likely shown that all initial shots were head and neck, which i agree about because both of these idiots could have been wearing a bomb vest. And its rightfully correct to assume any or all future terrorists will have one, they will learn from the mistakes here.

He started firing from about 20 yds and then got within 7-10 yds

He fired at least 12 rounds

This has photos of the scene and weapons:

Some of us are ignoring the idea that this officer was the tripwire observer securing the perimeter.
The Garland SWAT heavy hitters were closest to the people being protected were where they were supposed to be.
The traffic officer also was remarkably cool headed and a fine shot under pressure and neutralized the 2 buffoons before anyone needed to shift towards his position. THAT drives home the vital point that these things can unfold and conclude so quickly that there's no telling if you'll have time to shift forces.

Let's go ahead and shut this one down for the time being. There is a lot of speculation going on and it does us no good. When the official report comes out we can revisit the topic.
