I had one of those once except I did get an exit, absolutely no visible entry wound the fat/hide closed up around it, the exit was typical of my 6.5x55 around 2" it was not until we skinned the deer did I know exactly where I hit him.

Saw that happen to a hog once.

It ran less than 20 feet before it keeled over.

...and then the strike dog mounted it.

Talk about a humiliating death.

Dang it! Caught me off guard with that one. Coffee shot out my nose and onto laptop. :D

I use 30-30 every year. The entry wound has never been a mystery for me. You can especially tell from the inside once you start skinning it. Lots of dark blood around the hole.

I have had the same thing happen with polymer tipped bullets. If you were using Leverevolution it would make a very small pin hole on the way in and may not have exited. If an animal is contorted in a position where the hide is stretched on impact and then relaxes you will get the same pin hole effect with softpoints.

This same thing happened to me several years ago with a 75 yd shot on a trotting little 6 pointer with a 25.06. Not one sign of blood anywhere, no entry or exit hole. I suspected a heart attack (I know this does happen with rabbits) but I finally concluded that the bullet must have entered one ear hole and exited the other though because it folded into a ball mid stride. Very strange though.
I once shot a deer in the ear from about 25 yards with my 30-06, 150 gr, Core Lokt. Entrance hole was hard to find, but there was a bit of blood in the left ear canal. Exit wound in the other ear, though, was obvious. Also very conspicuous was the shattered skull and the protruding eyeballs. The bullet's energy expended inside the skull did a lot of damage.
