Ok, one more 617 question- hopefully not too stupid, but I'll ask it anyways.
Went to the local gun shop today, and really liked the feel of the 617 they had there, think I will go pick it up sometime soon(only thing wrong I could see with it, is that it is abeit heavy...but hopefully I can put 150-200 rds through it w/o it tiring my arms too much from holdin git...), anyways on to the q...

Do most people when plinking fire in da or sa mode? IE to you cock the hammer after each shot, or just shoot it da?
I'm just used to shooting all my autoloaders in sa(except my glock of course...).

I shoot DA, but my first pistol was a Ruger Security-Six .357 and I like shooting DA, and am good at it. However, for distance precision work, SA.


Most people I've seen shoot .22 revolvers SA even with DA as an option.

If I'm trying to hit something small or far I shoot SA.
I shoot DA for fun or to test how well I can put the first shot in a kill area on a human target, if in a defensive situation you won't have the time to cock it.

It depends what the primary purpose of your revolver is. If it is for self-defense, you should shoot it DA except when you are sighting-in or otherwise testing.

purely for plinking/target shooting...no intention of using it for sd

Double action shooting is an aquired skill that you have to work hard for. A very good trigger is a must if target shooting. With practice (after learning the technique) you will be able to stage your trigger while shooting double action and be as accurate as you would be shooting single action. You can count on not being able to do this with an out of the box trigger though.

I shoot DA much more, because it's harder to get good at. I figure I can use all the practice I can get. When I'm trying to hit something small and far though, as was mentioned above, I usually shoot SA.

Shooting DA is fun though. Actually, shooting SA is fun too.... wait... I think it's all fun...

One good thing about shooting DA more in a revolver is you get better at shooting the first round out of DA/SA autos like Sigs and Berettas.I have a GP-100 and my DA and SA POI's are almost the same. I used to pull the first shot about 4 inches down at 7 yards.

i shoot all my wheelguns DA just to keep "the touch" in tune. it takes a bit a practice to be a good DA shooter, that is why a .22lr wheelgun is an outstanding investment.

i do somtimes shoot my wheelguns SA when i'm shooting much beyond 50 yards

The majority of my shooting with a DA/SA revolver is DA. It was my training and I'm grateful for it. BTW, nothing is more fun than rapid fire "instinctive shooting" with a DA revolver. Fire six, dump, reload w/speedloader, fire six, dump, reload w/speedloader, fire six, dump, reload...
