Well, this is how many criminals get guns that aren't stolen. This group sold 87 guns.


And the guns aren't illegal. They were legally purchased. It is the people buying them that are criminals.


It doesn't mean that all of NY's gun problems are because GA has loose guns laws, GA's gun laws are fine, all of these straw buyers had clean backgrounds so they would have passed anywhere.

When AP and other sources run articles praising NYC gun laws that limit NYC to 25,000 or so legal registered handguns, somewhere down past the cutoff line in the spacefillers the articles usually note that NYPD or ATF estimate one or two million unregistered handguns on the streets of NYC.

This is one of the biggest challenges gun stores face. Straw buyers are not always completely obvious and those which might be suspicious become a customer relations headache when denied. The most common theme I've heard from dealers I know is a young woman asking to buy something small and cheap then adding large frame guns after the background check clears, or seeing the same customer buying multiple copies of the same non collectable handgun such as a pocket pistol or less expensive full size like the SD.
 
Thank gosh! Finally a story about a gun pipeline that isn't complaining about all the guns going from Indiana (to Illinois), Pennsylvania (to NYC) or Arizona (to Mexico).

So Fox News headline editors apparently asleep at the switch (again). The guns themselves were not illegal. The re-sale of the guns was.

Wait, isn't that illegal? Doesn't NYC require all handguns to be registered?

In other boring, silly news stories today, the wildfires continue out West, the Red Sox are losing in the 9th, and the sun came up again this morning.

That's it, in a nutshell. "Gun control" is just kabuki theater, and always will be. "Silent noncompliance" with gun laws would make noncompliance with COVID vaccines seem like child's play. And the politicians know this, which is why there has been utter silence on the gun control front this year.
 
What they'll prosecute on is for lying on a federal form. Specifically they'll argue the buyers lied when they said it was for personal use.

I wouldn't say "much ado about nothing" but yes, 87 guns are the proverbial drop in the bucket here.

So he bought 87 guns from 6 sellers, i.e. approximately 15 per seller. The article doesn't say over what time period. If he bought 1 per month per seller, that wouldn't have raised a seller's suspicions, but if he bought 15 in one month I would say the dealer should have at least asked a few extra questions beyond the 4473.

Yes, group made straw purchases in GA. Article doesn't say how many were sold in GA, but some made it to NY. In one case, they intercepted -- five! OH, and high capacity magazines!

The article does have that, between Aug 2020 and April 21. So, 8 months, roughly 11 per month. If evenly distributed, two per dealer per month -- give or take.

If you buy more then 2 handguns in a 7 day period the FFL is requited to fill out a "multiple purchase" form and send (email) it to the BATFE. That many firearms in that short a period of time should have raised a few eyebrows at the BATFE!!
 
On the border between TN and VA dealers have been asked to watch for people obviously buying for purposes of resale, not for personal use.

Wilson buying 87 guns probably put him on some agency's radar, with a view to find out who, where, the guns were going to.
