The other year a friend of mine brought some moose antler back from Alaska and I made new grips for my Detonics Mk.1 Combat Master .45. Pretty chunky, but I've got a pretty big hand, so that's OK. Still room for improvement though, and last night I thinned them out a bit, re-sanded and refinished them.
I didn't stop there, of course. I added some 20 line-per-inch checkering to the front of the grip frame, which makes it very secure in the hand. First time trying checkering, and it came out well!
