Thanks for your relpies. I'm proud of both of my boys. David just got back from Iraq in late Sept. He's in the 101st Airborne. He has just about one year left but it sounds like they'll deploy again before that time and so he'll be extended about 5 to 6 months. Having two sons in wears heavy on my heart. I just want my boys to make it through this time in one piece. Thanks again.

Congratulations and

Thank you for serving your country. I mean that in all honesty and emphasize that because I want to tell you a little story, just for fun, but there might be a small lesson there also. I was in the US Navy and had a buddy who was a marine on the same ship. He told us once that when he got out of Marine boot camp he felt, that since he was a Marine he could lick any man from about any other branch of service, maybe especially sailors. So, he got into a fight sometime later with a sailor and the sailor won. So, go out and be one of the few and the proud and have that esprit de corps.....but.......

I know you will do well in basic. And as everyone else told you...all you have to do is what you are told and take life ONE DAY AT A TIME. That is how to get through about anything...ONE DAY AT A TIME and don't be worrying about tomorrow or yesterday. You only have today.

If I preached don't mean to offend you but a little life experience passed on is the way we all can survive. US Navy 1960-67 Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club 1965 (Look it up)

When that DI tells you to drop and give him 25 make sure you just say "yes sir" and hit the ground. Smart comments like " one handed or two" really gives the DI's motivation to mess with you. Real simple and direct replys help limit your exposure to "special attention". When you come back home after New Years you'll be a different person, one for the better.
Congrats and good luck.

ex Army airborne , sick lame an lazy, former teenage hardcore here, sez;
good luck to you. And after Basic, if you do get offered specialized classes or training, do it, you won't regret it down the line, especially if you can jump into some kind of OCS class.
