Getting the "Imperial Red-Headed Scorpio" out to the range

Well that pretty well sums it up. I had the audacity to trade my M686 for a CZ-83. She threw a fit over the trade even though she shot the gun twice. So maybe a S&W K-Frame , a M10 or M15 might be the ticket. I am kinda looking for a 3" J-frame for me. Might work for her also.

I would like to get her shooting some of the guns in inventory.
I have 5 Mosins, two Mausers two Enfields a M700 Remington 270, a Savage M99 a Yugo SKS, an Enfield 30-06 sporter at the 'smiths and a Yugo M-48 Mauser in transit.

There is a small problem of large proportions. My wife is no delicate flower. She is a woman of substance. Her...ahem..bust size which runs into the F and G sizes causes problems with properly shouldering rifles. She has shot the 270 with great success, but the gun fits her really funny. Conventional wisdom would suggest a rifle with a short LOP ala Enfield or SKS

I also have a Western Field 550 (aka Mossberg 500) and a vintage 1906 Winchester M97 12ga. I also have a trap thrower. Would that be a place to start. Trap seems like a good place to start and there is a world class range right up I-5.

Any Comments, ideas, suggestions?

"Red headed Scorpios" are a mine field waiting for some poor sot with tap-dancing shoes to wander through. :D

I'd go for for the Mossy 500 clone as a starting point, with multable targets shooting against the clock. There is just something about the drill of "BOOM!-cra-rack-BOOM!-cra-rack-BOOM!-cra-rack-BOOM!" that speaks to the primative part of all our brains. When your Lady Fair has no issue with standing targets, make the targets moving and flying.

Thank goodness my wife isn't really interested in guns. She likes knives, instead. :D

Accoeding to Her Majesty, the monitor is thrown out the nearest window onto the hood of the car belonging to the unfortunate IT person. If that vehicle is not available, a car belonging to an HR flunky or a do-nothing upper management yes-man will suffice.

I am surprised no one has question the logic or safety factor in actually placing a gun in the hands of a Red-Headed Scorpio. After all I do keep the cast iron frying pan locked up with the guns just to be on the safe side. There is one week out of the month that working lots of OT is much preferred to being at home.
 
red-heads truly are the most treacherous. that being said, my HS sweet heart was a red head and though she constituted some of the most painful experiences i've had, she was also some of the best. prolly why i am now dating another red head in college. . . .

When she plans to shoot long guns, she should be sure that the bra she's wearing doesn't have any hardware on the front of the strap.

Learned that one the hard way. :eek:

Also, I cannot for the life of me remember which company, but someone is making shooting pads designed to be velcro'd onto a bra strap, to prevent the strap from digging into your skin and to give a little extra cushioning. If she's interested, PM me and I'll see if I can come up with the company name.

I suspect that much of the difficulty that your wife has with properly shouldering a long gun would be lessened if she had a shorter stock. Um, not sure how to put this delicately, but even if her arms are longer than average measured from the shoulder joint itself, if she's as well endowed as you say her arms are likely shorter than average when measured from the spot the long gun rests. A shorter stock may allow her a more natural hold.

From what you say, a SKS or an SMLE might be just the ticket. Both of those guns have a short LOP. I can also load some light 308 for the Ishapore 2A.
I also have two Mosin M38's but those little flamethrowers can be daunting.

I'll try the SKS first.

I have taken up with a Scorpio redhead, and i haven't noticed any problems with temper. I have, however, noticed lots of gray hairs recently and I'm 26. She loves my Walther and going to the range, but doesn't consider any of them to be hers yet, as I'm still in the socialist deprogramming phase and getting used to guns in general. :D
