I'd venture to say it does, you can always tighten it?

I have 2 webslings that I used on my m16.

you can tighten them.

Probably didn't phrase the question right.

I understand they can be adjusted; but a guy with a 36" waist can wear a 50" belt, he's just going to have a big long piece of the belt flapping in the breeze.

I'm just wondering if I can tighten the M1 sling up and not have a long piece of sling left over from the tightening.

Hope that makes sense. Probably doesn't...:D

couldnt you always just trim the tail off to make it neater?

Use a lighter, and melt webbing. It'd be way more tactical that way too; no shiny metal clanking around....

On woven items like webbing, shoe laces, light cord that fray when cut, I use super glue to stop the fraying. I just allow it to wick in and form the end. It works for cotton or synthetics. Be careful when forming the end or you'll glue the item to your fingers.

Back when I was in there were still a few M1 slings laying about. You could get them tight enough to make a parade sling* with one, would that be tight enough?

*tightened so that with a magazine inserted the sling was perfectly taut and had no slop when the receivers were closed.

Id avoid nylon slings if you're planning on using the sling for target shooting support. Nylon slips and it stretches. Stick with cotton

I'm just using it as a fancy carrying strap. I do wonder though, which slips and stretches more - the soft seat belt nylon sling or the hard nylon sling? I have the hard nylon sling. I mean, it's downright abrasively hard.

No, not looking for that tight. Like I said; I just didn't want a two feet of extra sling hanging out of the keeper.

Maybe?

Here's a web sling on my mid-length 16" barrled AR. With the original adjustable stock and with the current A1 stock. The A1 rear sling mount actually has a shorter reach than the fully extended adjustable stock.

Thanks for the pics! That's just what I'm looking for!

There's plenty of adjustment in either the nylon or cotton sling (you can slide the forward buckle back to the tip to help.

Another thing to do is to rig it so the sling is upside down--so that the friction tab is up and faces the underside of the barrel (this will keep the end of the sling from drooping down like a too-long belt.

Alternately, you could go with a single-point sling.
