contest over, thanks for playing. winner is at the bottom.

First person to guess what color I dyed the micarta scales on my new Becker BK14 gets it. If more than one person guesses it I'll randomly pick from the names.

I'd be interesting in knowing exactly how you dyed micarta.

Rit dye from walmart. I used the pretreat product too. Soaked it about thirty minutes, rinsed, then soaked it in the dye. I think using a dye constitutes dying whoever said staining. :D:p

I think most micarta is laminated...these scales are not. Maybe that's why it was confusing to some people. I like the raw feel though. If someone knows how to achieve a smooth laminated feel id be interested...

Burgundy, but not sure if that's the same as oxblood. (And "a shade" of red could be anything from pink to purple, so that's kind of unspecific! :p )

The package said purple and in this pic it looks purple...

HOWEVER it looks very burgundy in person.

To keep it fun I am drawing 6 pieces of paper from a hat. Mg.mikael who guessed it just right gets 3 chances, jshirley gets 2, and that cheater kingpin008 gets 1. Will post up the winner in a sec :)

(by the way, it was still a little wet around the screws)
