Glock 22 vs USP 40 S&W

I own a GLOCK 23, have fired GLOCK 22 and HK USP. Whatever gun you end up with is an excellent choice in my opinion. GLOCK would be the first choice for me. I like the way it points, the angle of the grip, and God help me I even like the trigger. My GLOCK has never given me any problems, and about a thousand rounds later, no jams, failure to fire etc. It also doesn't hurt that magazines and parts are pretty easy to come by. At least that is the case in my area. I am sure that the same could be said of reliability in the HK. Pick whichever one feels right to you, and you have made the right choice.

Greetings,

Haven't posted here in a while. But, I have a USP45F, G19, G17, and had a G22. I love my G19 and G17. Recoil is easy, but hey, it's a 9mm, and although they require more focus of concentration for me to be accurate with them, I really do like them. The G22 I had was a 3rd gen w/ the finger grooves which I can't stand. Also, I don't like the way the Glock handles the .40. It's a snappy round to begin with and you (or at least me) feel the recoil more exagerated than in other .40 platforms I've fired (Sig 226/229, CZ75, Beretta 96, HK USP40C). Regardless, it really comes down to personal preference. In reality, they are both excellent handguns.

Having said all this, the USP is the one gun I would absolutely keep. It is without a doubt, my favorite platform in any caliber. I love the controls, the ergos, and the accuracy is OUTSTANDING!!!! I agree with what another poster said in that the USP's slide seems to move slower, especially as compared to the Glock. However, I can shoot this gun better than anything else I've shot. It has never ever hiccuped, can't say the same for the G17 & G22 that I've owned. My next pistol is a USPF in either 9mm or .40.

Shoot them both. Shoot them again. When I first got my USP, I was dissapointed at the range. I was shooting consistent groups, but they were a good 2" below the bullseye. I dry fire practiced a lot for a week, went back to the range and all was heavenly at the range. Accuracy was great. I've always had a hard time w/ Glock triggers, but maybe that's just me as a lot of folks swear by the Glock. Again, either pistol is great, it's all about personal preference.

Lol, thanks for the offer to sell the gun, but im not quite ready to buy it, I'm just getting my research done so when i do buy ill make a good choice. And i do plan on seeing how the usp feels in hand so i can compare to the glock. Thanks for all the comments

I would also vote for the USP. They are top notch quality and built to take the abuse. I've shot several thousand rounds thru my USP 40 without a single failure. You won't go wrong with H&K

Like the guy before me said you cant go wrong with a USP but you also cant go wrong with a Glock. Both are amazing guns, how does it fit you how well do you shoot with it? I prefer the Glock 22 but only you can decide.

I have shot a BUNCH of USP's. I have really tried to like them. I have no problem affording a USP either. I just don't like them. IMO they are clunky, bad ergonomics, and don't offer anything over competing designs that I like better.

If I was given a USP I would sell or trade it without even shooting it. I put a real effort into liking them and just can't find anything to like about them that a similar gun doesn't have. In this case I would recommend a G22, a half dozen mags and a thousand rounds of ammo instead. Probably be enough money left over for a nice steak too.......

Thanks for all the feedback wasnt expecting it so quick. and the uses id like a gun thats accurate at a range, and good for personal defense.

Dont be suprised anytime you compare something to a GLOCK the boards light up. Some people on this forum just hate GLOCKs for no good reason so beware of unjustified biased attitudes. Having said that I have a GLOCK 30, and 21 (both are .45acp) and I love them. Over 2,000 rounds through the 30 with not one single failure. You will hear about kabooms in the G22 but this is almost always due to reloads (which are usually the cause of most KBs) so if you are not planning to shoot reloads disregard these warnings. The grips on a GLOCK are the most common complaint, next to the trigger, I have big hands so the grip feels good to me. Hate to confuse you with more options but FN Herstal has a pretty sweet pistol in .40 S&W as well and you may want to give that a look too.

If you want a Glock .40 that can beat an HK .40, definitely go with the Glock 35. One of the absolute best .40s I've ever fired. Just an opinion, of course.

Boomstik45

I agree:
I wanted to add a few inch's to my Mdl 22, Glock 40. So I bought a 166mm barrel. That is 6.5" . Shoots great. Talk about accurate.
At first it was not as accurate as it is now. Probabaly me and the barrel getting used to everything and doing a very fine job of blowing out the X ring at 15 feet. Slow fire and trying very hard to score the perfect 10:D

Moved the target to approx 50 feet still very tight. I likee:D Not something to carry around town, but good for what I am going to do with it.
Which is, go to the range and impress all the young shooters and just be friendly when they want some pointers. ;)

HQ:)

heh its no problem, im open to suggestions ill just have to wait for the next gun show to get my hands on one of these to see the feel.

I have both a H&K USP40 and a glock 22. I favor the Glock over the H&K any day. the trigger on the H&K is spongy and the gun large and bulky. I'm looking to sell the H&K if your really looking ha ha..

Glock or a 1911 style (IMO)

Heh, I think just the opposite. But I just consider the Glocks too blocky, and don't like the grip angle.

I dont have a HK .40 but i do have a USP stainless 9mm. I also own several Glocks. One thing i dont like about the HK is the shorter grip compared to the Glocks. I like the way the web of my hand is higher on the Glock. My support hand can get a little more grip on the Glocks. Ive never had a malfunction with either. I like HKs but i like Glocks a little better.

Another huge plus about all glock models is the fact that mags can be had for $15 new. I keep spare mags in each car, in my kitchen, livingroom, you name it. You can buy two or three mags for the price of some HK and Sig mags. I wouldn't pick one gun over another because of the mags but it's a bonus.

My daily carry is my HK 40F loaded with Double Tap's 165 gr. Gold Dot bullets. I am "old school" and carry it cocked & locked... You need to find out what works for you...good advice from these guys...shoot as many as you can test drive. Ask you local gun buddies to let you shoot some of their pistols...if you lived close to me I have a "small arsenal" you could wring out. You'll be glad you spent the time getting the right one for you when you need it!

I find my brother's USP45 to be a bit bulky, but the USP40? It isn't too bad at all, at least for me. I've never fired a G22, but when I wanted to add a new 40 to my lineup, I compared the G22 and the XD40 and ended up with the Springfield. I still haven't fired the Springfield, but when I do, I will fire it side by side with my USP40 to see which I prefer. To me, the USP40 is an awsome piece of machinery, but the ergonomics of the XD just seemed very natural.

What I like about the USP is the double action external hammer. The functions are set up very similar to the 1911 (I believe that I read that they did that on purpose).

What I don't like is that when I raise it for firing, I have to "search" for the sight alignment. Haven't had to do that with the XD, but again, I haven't actually fired it yet, either.
