I bought mine back in 1993/94 and think it is probably generation 1.

I just want to figure out which one I have and what is different than the newer ones. If it helps the numbers are AWX***US.

I do like it a lot and it has been a perfect performer in every way.

Gen 2 is what you have.

Gen 3 has a light rail and finger grooves.

Gen 4 has a light rail, finger grooves, and inter-changeable back straps.

I personally prefer the gen 2's over the others.

    Thanks Dan O.

So what would a Gen 1 have that is different from my Gen 2?

I added an internal LaserMax and trijacon night sights to mine but the sites have gone dead. Laser still works great and I do not have any issues with this Gen 2.

.40 cal Glocks were never available in a Gen 1 variation.

Gen 1's didn't have the agressive texturing (as they do now) on the front strap nor back strap of the grip. Gen 1 Glock 17 pictured below:

    Thanks Dan O.

Are there any upgrades or known issues with the Gen 2 .40s I should know about?

Nope. Just shoot it like you stole it.
