Does anyone know why this happens or what it is? The first two pictures are of mine and the last one is a picture I found of the same thing happening on two Glock 24C's. Thanks for any input guys.

Because hot gas jetting through ports at 30,000 PSI will wear/stain/alter the finish.

It shouldn't do any real damage to it though right? The tenifer treatment of the steel won't be effected?

Character building via hot gasses, bullet lube, powder residue and maybe even bits of bullet metal. I found a brass bore brush will remove most of it if not all if it's just sitting on top of the black/gray oxide paint. The brush will leave a little brass residue of its own but light rubbing with a product such as Hoppes #9 will get that off.
