I would like some recommendations for a good retention holster for a Glock 26. This would be for open carry, so concealability is not a primary concern. An open-bottom holster would be nice, if possible, so I could carry a 17/19/22/23 in it. I am unfamiliar with the terms Level II and Level III retention. I would also prefer something that rides high. I don't care if it's leather or kydex. The only one I've ruled out is the Blackhawk Serpa (Paul Gomez's post in strategy & tactics made me look elsewhere). What do you all recommend? Thanks in advance.

Safariland 6004 is always good. I think Safariland has a new retention system in the works that is even better/quicker than the 6004's hood, no idea when it is being released though.

I use the DeSantis Thumb Break Mini Slide for concealed and open carry. It's pretty good...has an open bottom and rides high enough for me. It has an adjustable retention screw as well. I just put the gun in the holster with it in my hand, and tightened up the screw snug with the trigger guard because it was a pretty tight fit to begin with. It ran me around $36 from my local police supply store.

Another one I used when I carried a G19 was a Bianchi Shadow II and it was great too. The holster was a little bigger than the DeSantis but wouldn't be an issue for you because it is for open carry only. I use mine for concealed carry sometimes, so I went with the DeSantis over this one for my G26 for maximum concealment. If it wasn't for that I would have gone with this one for my G26 too. The fit/finish was excellent. This one I got from MidwayUSA for about $50+

Tantrix, I currently use a Mini-slide for OWB concealed carry, but without the thumb break. It is nice enough, but I don't like that the slide rubs against my skin. In the thumb break version, is there a "slide guard" (perhaps a patch of leather) to prevent this?

Oh yeah, don't worry about that. The side of the thumb break that faces the inside is pretty wide. You see in the picture how wide the outside strap is? The inside one is as wide if not wider. It protects the slide very well.

Wanna buy my Milt Sparks Versamax II? It's awesome. I wore it twice and it's in perfect condition. I have the interchangeable kydex clips for it too, never used. Problem is that it took 6 months to get the thing and by the time I received it in December I'm planning to sell my G27. It would obviously also fit your G26. PM me if you're interested, bottom line price I paid was about $117.
