I got a different barrel and was thinking of selling the original, but I realized it has the serial number on it. Are there any downsides or potential issues of someone else knowing my serial number? When people post pics they usually black out the serial number, not exactly sure why, but that's what got me thinking about it.

I'd keep it.
The serial number is blacked out on the web for a couple reasons. First is far fetched but people think others will claim it's theirs with some bogus paper work - but that wouldn't work anyway.
The other is so some agency or whatever may come looking for that specific gun if someone loses their rights or if something to do with that gun is in question.
If you want to sell it there's no issue doing so but it's best to keep guns parts together, what if you sell the glock for another that could use your aftermarket barrel you end up selling your replacement barrel for nothing as it won't add one dime of value to the selling price.
There may be other reasons but that's all I can think of right now.

Gun parts are a resource, and especially barrels. I wouldn't sell it, as you or someone you know may come need of a barrel like that one day. It's better to keep it than find yourself needing to buy another one anyway.

I guess I'm not picturing a scenario where I would ever need it again. The comp I have on the gun only fits the new barrel. If I were to sell the gun I'd sell it with the new barrel and comp. If I don't want the comp at some point in the future that would be the only scenario where I'd use the factory barrel again.

If I had a dollar for every time I made a similar statement, I'd have a nice little fund built up. Desire's and likes change in the long term.

Downsides?
A year ago January, I received a firearm trace request on a Glock 26. I went to my books and lo and behold ......its in my safe and had been there about a month. Customer was out of town and typically only picked up his transfers once a month. This was not a complete Glock 26, just the frame. The GunBroker dealer in Georgia takes complete NIB Glock pistols and sells the frames separately from the barrel/slide assembly. This is becoming increasingly more common.

Someone bought the barrel/slide assembly (with serial#'s on both slide and barrel) slapped it on a 80% pistol frame and thats the only serial# the officer had to run.

So........that's the downside of someone having your old barrel.

Simply knowing the serial#? No, the internet myth of an unknown person reporting your serial# as "stolen" is just that, myth.

If you did decide to sell the gun, I would think you would make out better selling it with the original barrel in it and selling the aftermarket separate.

I agree with both of these ^^^^^

I, personally, would keep it. Because with my luck the new barrel and comp would develop a problem someday and I would need to remove it. Maybe from wear or something might crack or accuracy might suddenly deteriorate. Whatever the issue. I would keep the original barrel and think of it as a backup.

Yes good idea to keep it, as others have said, if you do sell the gun down the road you'll really wish you had that barrel, you can sell the aftermarket one separately if need be.
