Seems that the GLOCK G36 has not had a thread here in quite awhile.

- Old.
- No Gen4-5 updates.
- Only 6+1 capacity.
- Mags don't fit anything else.
- Not a micro.
- Not chambered in the Flavor-of-the-Month.

Gaston's bastard?

I've got one that I bought in 2010.

It shoots well and it carries well in a shoulder holster rig I have for it. Due to size and lack of capacity my G36 and two spare mags carry lightly. Of course, considering the required jacket to conceal it due to where I live, it only gets carried on cold days.

Do I wish I would have just bought a G19 with higher capacity? Sure, but it works and trading it towards something else would be a money loser for me.

I think the G36 can only really be compared to other single stack .45 ACP carry guns. Whether a bobbed 1911 or a Springfield XDS.

I don't know if Glock will abandon the G36 or not.

Got mine around the same time. Brother got one, to replace an old Colt Officer's ACP he foolishly gave away.

As a long time G23/.40 fan, it was an interesting pistol, and a .45 ACP ta boot. (although an 8+1 .40 chambering would be sweet)

Loaded with 230 gr. +P HST, it has replaced the G23.4 as my EDC.

Added an OEM minus "-" connector, a GALCO suede IWB Stow-N-Go holster (3:30 carry), an extra mag, and a Rhinoplasty.

Comfortable, light weight, compact, .45 ACP.

For me? It's everything you need, nothin' you don't.

The muzzle is probably the best looking part of a G36. Too bad the shooter doesn't get to see much of it. :D

Back when mine was new with 200 grain JHPs loaded up.

Yeah, that "Go Away" .45 muzzle.

Looks like the old "silverstone" finish on that one, too.

Nice.

Have two newer ones now (above). Still sans accessory rail, but w/ the flat black nitride looking finish... that shows holster wear.

Thought the rail was a mistake, but what do I know.

I had a Glock 22 and it always went bang when I pulled the trigger. I pumped about what it cost me into it in parts. It was improved but still ugly as a dogs butt. I think the hammer sums it up well. It’s just a hammer. That’s all. Great for doing its job.

The Rhinoplasty helps w/ the lines of the G36 a bit, along with its smooth sides and clean muzzle. Hershey Bar plain and simple.

Makes suede IWB holstering quite a bit easier, too, and smooths out the print.

Has really grown on me over the years.

Having moved from a 6+1 Firestar .40 up to a 13+1 G23.2 ->.4, for "peace of mind?"

Over the years and rounds down range... have come to consider this to be the SD bad day to be prepared for:

...and the G36, or even the li'l Sig P938 in a pinch, will deal with that. (If I do my part)

I had to look again. Nice trigger guard work.

Pretty easy to do.

Put the stripped frame in a ziplock bag and make a slit to pull the guard through and mask off, to keep the junk out.

Then have at it with sander/file/sanding block/green scotchbrite... proceeding on the simply theory that you can not add it back.

Takes ~ an hour of fiddlin' to get it just right.

I don’t know if Glock will, but I did. I bought mine to replace an officers ACP that broke the slide, was repaired, and broke again. It was very accurate and as reliable as a Glock should be, but I never could make up my mind about whether I liked it or not. One day I had it setting next to a G19 and realized they were about the same size. Traded it for a G17. But if you are wanting a 45ACP carry gun you could do a lot worse than the G36. For me, nine is fine.

Aside of XD-S, competitors are Kahr P45/CW45, PM45/CM45, and S&W Shield 45. Well, and SIG P220 Compact (model 220C3-45-BSS), but that one is kind of theoretical. I've never seen one in my life.

I have a G36, it was my EDC for a couple years. It's a decent gun for concealed carry, fairly slim for a 45 and I can shoot it quite well. When comparing the size vs capacity to other Glocks I have to say the 36 isn't the one I would choose today.

Most of those points in he original post could be said about the 42/43 also.

Not for me. I've shot them, and they perform fine, but for the weight and bulk, I would just as rather go with the G30 and have a couple more rounds, if I was to CC a 45.

I purchased one and sold it NIB without firing a shot. It took some time to find an interested buyer, and even then it was trade +cash. At the time I was thinking of leaving 9mm but settled on it after I gained confidence in another pistol.

The G30, with 10+1 capacity and standard doublestack magazine interchangeability for 13+1 from the 21 magazines, is 0.17in wider and 0.04in taller than the G36. I find it hard to go with the G36 in light of those negligible dimensions.

It is... but it isn't.

Almost half-a-pound lighter loaded, too.
As It's the only .45 ACP GLOCK in the inventory, mag utility is not an issue.

Exactly the reasons I picked a 30 over a 36.
