I need some help my great and sexy wife has given me a gift certificate to sportsmans warehouse for xmas to purchase a new handgun and i now that i can have what i want i cant decide(great problem to have right) i have narrowed it down to an glock .45 or .40 or a springfield armory XD in .40 or
.45. i have a kimber .45 and a glock 17 already so thats why i an considering tha 40 cal. thanks for the help and merry xmas

Wow nice wife, so is mine. I received a German Mauser 98k manufactured in 1939. I've never fired a Spingfield anything and I sure like my G17 so if it were my gift certificate I'd probably p/u a G26 to go with the 17. As for .40's I don't have one but I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinions on which to buy. For me it'd be a Glock.

See 2 answers 2 different opinions.

I'm just the opposite. I prefer the Glock over the XD. Don't get me wrong, the XD is a fine weapon and my son owns one. But, I prefer the trigger in the Glock better than the XD.

Have you ever shot an XD? Give it a go and see if you like it. Since you already have a Glock and if the XD shoots to your liking then that's what you should get.

Nothing wrong with the .40 cal either. I don't have any more .40 cal weapons cause I like the 10MM better.

Let me say this once again........... IMHO, XD's are the ugliest guns I've ever seen. BTW, I have the 2cnd ugliest guns I've ever seen (Glocks).

I personnally hate glocks to me they are not as accurate as a xd but glocks have a lot of followings i prefer the trigger in the xd. I have 2 xd's a full size 45 and a sub compact 40 and i had to qualify with them both for my pd i shot a 498 out of 500 with the 40 and 499 out of 500 with the 45. the best i ever shot with a glock was a 483. Go XD ALL THEY WAY!!!!!!!

Asking for preferences between Glocks and XD,s often results in unsatisfactory feedback because it is based on emotion, e.g. my gun is better than your gun and so on! Not that my feedback will be somehow a whole heck of a lot better but let me give you some of my personal thoughts.

First, I have owned and shot a lot of Glocks and could never get used to the safety system. I know, I know the best safety system is between one's ears and, if you don't mean to shoot, keep your finger off the trigger. But, the idea of the XD having a grip safety just makes be feel a whole lot more comfortable when I am carrying concealed.

A lost of posters express their preference for the Glock trigger. I just don't see it and, IMHO, there is not a lot of difference. If I am really concerned about a gun's trigger I get a gunsmith to adjust the trigger until I am satisfied. Glock or XD.

I am a real fan of the 45 ACP and, once again, I find the G21 too big and bulky and the G36 too small. I must admit that the G30 is one heck of a weapon and, except for the safety system, is my personal Glock "pick of the litter"!

The XD 45 has, for me, a much better grip and I do like the idea of 13+1 rounds. I find the guns really similar and it is the differences I have expressed that made me choose the XD 45. FWIW:what:

If money is tight get the XD, if that is not the case spend the extra and get the Glock but either will serve you well. I recently had to decide between the two and after much research, shooting both, and talking to several people most be LEO's I got a new Glock 19 a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

I've been told by people who have both, that if you get a glock 40s&w and you are planning to reload, that you will probably need to get an aftermarket barrel for it.

That adds $100 or whatever to the price of glocks in 40s&w.

5 to 2, Glock over XD and you choose the XD:confused:

Just bugging you, get the one that you want. Go to Sportsman's Warehouse and hold both of them and see which one points and feels the best in your hand.

Great gift from your wife, what'd you buy her?

Steve

everybody here knows the way i feel! i have statd my reasons many many times, and it is a long list why, but for now xd all the way for me. period!
ahh haa! i found the list again!

These are my personal opinions and by no means are true for everyone, but these are the reasons that I prefer the xd to the glock!

Grip angle- more comfortable, feels better in my hands.
Grip girth- I have small hands so something I can wrap my hands around is important.
Finger groves- don’t like them don’t think I need them.
Guide rod- metal instead of plastic
Metal sights-unlike glock
Factory sights- 3 dot sights are better for me than the glock u type sights
XD gear- xd comes with holster, double mag carrier, and loading tool, and three mags glock does not.
Metal trigger- xd has metal trigger, glock has plastic.
Trigger pull- trigger all around better on the xd.
Xd has a Fully supported chamber, glock dosen’t
xd mags are ss, and easy to disassemble, and clean.

glocks are fine weapons though.

Having shot both, I have to agree with possum. The XD just feels better in my hand, and I like the trigger better as well.

My own .40 is a CZ75B and I like it even better.

There's really no wrong choice here.:)

Now, I am not going to say that Glocks or XDs are garbage, or any other such drivel. I think any pistol that has wrought as much change and innovation in the handgunning world in the last 20 years has to be a good pistol.

Before I tell you which one I would prefer, I suggest you go to the store and check out which one fits YOU the best. Try a friend's Glock or XD if you can and make your own mind up. Glocks are reliable, XDs are reliable (SA put their XD9 through the same G17 torture test). Since this is about your choice of a pistol, try out the different models. You might like the Glocks' wierd grip angles, or you might like the XD which is modeled after the 1911.

Here's what I would choose: XD45ACP. It's my choice and I fired every .45 I could get my hands on.
Good luck with your choice!

(SA put their XD9 through the same G17 torture test).
i don't know if this is totally true i am sure that sa did go to great lenghts to test them out, but i know for sure there was a gun writer in a gun magazine that did a 20,000rd torture test on the xd 9mm. which is what sold me on the xd in the first place.
that can be read here!
