Glocks aren't the best.....

1st Glock 34 9mm 52 (Next to no one in real life carries this pig, but it fits in the box. IDPA just becoming another game? You don't say. . . .)
2nd Glock 17 9mm 32 (Or this one. The G19 is the CC piece, but no one glamorous competes with it? Been on the market since 1980.)
3rd S&W M&P 9mm 24 (Been on the market 4.5 years and is actually concealable.)

:barf:

More pointless and baseless opinions from the shallow water hater.

Next symptom in legionnaire's disease: Claim he and many of his buddies conceal carry a G34 daily.

The "point," as it were, was that IDPA was founded to be "different" from gun competitions with "gamer guns." The spirit of the competition means nothing to some people apparently.

:D

Now that was funny. I give credit where credit is due.

No I don't CCW a 34 but I do own one.

Not if I have to use a M&P = yuck ;)

A lot of people CCW the 34/35. It is the grip, not the barrel length that matters when CC.

This must explain the near total unpopularity of the G19 and G26, no?;)

"A lot of people CCW the 34/35. It is the grip, not the barrel length that matters when CC."

True, unless you ever plan to sit down when carrying. :)

Glocks aren't the "best" per say, but they set the standard for reliability with low maintenance, and are responsible for the popularity of the polymer gun as we know it. That being said when faced with the choice for a plastic handgun I got an XD45. I love it because it fits MY needs/preferances. If the reliability and accuracy are there, its all personal preferance after that.

The fanboyism is annoying however. When someone posts a thread asking for suggestions for a metal framed DA/SA semi & 2 posts later someone responds get a Glock. When the OP of a thread asks for information about different models from a specific maker & the response is "get a Glock, You'll thank me" or "Glock Rulez".

Fanboyism is my issue - with any brand of gun. Gun forum discussions should be a way to intelligently exchange information about guns. Unfortunately, there is always some idiot available to declare that "Brand X Rulez" because they couldn't articulate the positive attributes of their gun if their life depended on it. Since Glocks are widely owned, and often by less knowledgeable shooters, Glocks seem to be over-represented in the ranks of clueless fanboys.

Directly answering the OP, I think it's important to not only look at the behavior of the Glock fanboys, but also at the groups who are adamantly against Glocks.

If you remember when the Glock first hit the market, it didn't get the warmest reception from the shooting community, specifically those who believed in the traditional makings of a firearm (steel). Whether you be a fan of the 1911, Sigs, Beretta, etc, all gathered together in their hatred of this plastic bastard of a firearm called a Glock. While many have accepted that the Glock was here to stay and subsequently warmed up to the monstrosity, it is still accepted behavior to knock the Glock (i.e. this thread).

Could this feeling of insecurity found in Glockies be a direct result of belittlement from others within the shooting community, leading to Glock "Zions" such as Glock Talk?

Am I thinking about this stupid topic way to hard??? - YES

Back in 80s, when I first held a first generation Glock 17, my comment was, "***??? why would anyone make a plastic gun?" Comparing to 1911/Sig 226, it was like day and night. I really thought it was going to be a crazy fad that would pass. I was wrong.

In early 90s, when I first shot a Glock 17, I was pleasantly surprised. It shot well with reduced recoil and with great accuracy. I bought one. Do I think it's the best? No. But it's a great tool that does its job very well.

Is the Swiss Army knife the best knife in the world? No. But it's a great tool that does its job very well.

Glocks seem to be over-represented in the ranks of clueless anti-Glock fanboys. So Glock owners and "fanboys" can't be knowledgeable shooters?

^^^^^ THIS! AMEN!

While many have accepted that the Glock was here to stay and subsequently warmed up to the monstrosity, it is still accepted behavior to knock the Glock (i.e. this thread).

i.e. Especially this forum! No more hate (or personal attacks) threads unless Glock is being bashed then if its moderately disguised "hate" or if the attacks are against a whole group of people (the Unknowledgeable Glock Owners for example) then it fits OK.

the monstrosity
even in defending Glocks some just can't help but still knock it. ;)

It is not a binary situation. There is no "best." If someone starts popping off that the HK45 is the best I'll dog that thread too. If someone starts claiming the 1911A1 is the best, I'll knock that too, though the pistol is one of my favorites.

So some members just like to "dog" others opinions...;)

If someone is so uninformed as to think their personal choices are "the best" for the wider world, yep, I'm busting up that fool.

Many people need to be disabused of the notion that their material possessions somehow put them in a more enlightened state that they must share with the general public as "authoritative."

I have exactly no problem with someone liking a Glock or thinking it a fantastic pistol for their purposes.

When someone starts bringing "nothing compares" and "why bother with anything else?" or "look at what all of the cops use!" then I am going to chime in as sarcastically as I can manage.

Good day legion, you are fun.

Your suggestion that I was asserting that Glock owners can't be knowledgeable shooters is simply wrong.

I don't normally single out other forum members, but I will in this case. REAPER4206969 is a Glock owner and frequently defends Glocks, but he is clearly not a clueless fanboy. His posts, in a large number of discussions, show that he is knowledgeable about a variety of guns and he capably defends Glocks by accurately comparing and contrasting their features to the features of other guns.

My son is a Glock Advanced Armorer; he knows that Glocks can stand on the merits of the design without wild claims by clueless fanboys.

All clueless fanboys are annoying. And all major gun manufacturers probably have roughly the same spectrum of types of owners, varying from the clueless to the expert. If you are offended by the fact that there are a lot of clueless Glock fanboys, complain to Gaston Glock about his success in selling so many guns.

I'm feelin' your love, man. icon_smile_shy.gif

Every gun has its "fanboys" and none are exempt
.

Found that out with M1911's.

Some people identify sense of self with their firearms.

To me, they are just a different screwdriver.

But don't say anything bad about the M1a. :cuss:
