Goin to Disney/MGM Studios for New Years

not sure which yet, but that seems to be the plan...

I don't drink... so I won't have alcohol...

Should I pack? I don't really know the laws/policies regulating Disney... nor do I really wanna ask my younger non-weapon friendly brother(an "cast-member")... He threw a conniption when he saw the Commander in my pocket as we were leaving last time....

I told him I put it away... but I just concealed it until I was in the park... then back to ready it went.... and the Mickey Mouse patrol didn't say crap...

I'm not paranoid... but Disney... Jan 1st.... big crowds....

What would everyone here do???
 
Thinking more about it... I did decide at least the perfect Type of Handgun to carry at Disney......

They now perform spotty searches at all Disney theme parks. Usually just large bags and strollers. Went for a week in September and only saw this done about 5-6 times. I think it's more of a terrorist/bomb thing than anything else.

I felt quite safe there. There is nowhere for a criminal to go; I think there's only one main exit out of the whole place. I could be wrong but it would be hard for a criminal to get out of there and there are much easier targets than Disney.
 
I would call Disney before I left to find out what their policies concerning firearms. I'm sure their policy is Mickey Mouse.
 
I don't buy into all the disney paranoia, but they allegedly have small paramilitary forces there too.
 
Last April I had my Kahr K9 on in everyone of their parks and Universal's Islands of Adventure. tourist are targets, so better safe than sorry. They checked everyone's bags when I went, but no metal detectors.
 
I suppose the burning question is "Are you more concerned about hostile actions or less under these circumstances?"

Would you ordinarily consider a "walled garden" theme park a place that requires Condition Yellow or higher? If so, then carry if it's legal to.

Do you consider that the "terrorist threat" (a thing which has sounded weaker and weaker in my years for about six months now) is actually elevated, given the time of year? If so - then are you going to the right place at the right time?

Do you consider said "walled garden" to be a Condition White zone? If so, then fine and dandy, gun-carriage is moot. In my (admittedly inexerienced) opinion, then carrying a gun in Condition White territory is more a fashion statement than anything else.

The bottom line would be, in my mind, if the place you're visiting is Condition Yellow territory or higher, and does not permit carry, then terrorist fooforaw or not it's not a place to be.

Isn't that the point of the Condition Colours, after all?

I am fairly certain what I'm gonna do...
This was kind of a double-intent post. I figure at Disney, there is typically enough room in most spaces for me to get the hell outta Dodge if the need arises... only one exit but plenty of acreage to keep yer own ass safe.

What am I gonna do? Well... you can guess... I'm not tellin', at least when the sun is shinin'.:cool:
 
BTW, unless they have changed recently, No Disney guards are armed. Even the guys hauling money around and loading armored cars have no gun. Their policy is/was to allow robbers to take the money or anything else they wanted instead of risking a visitor getting shot and providing bad publicity.
 
The theme parks are walled, but the hotels are accessible to anyone and the bad guys know visitors have money and valuables(camcorders, digital cameras). There were more than a few dark areas walking from my hotel to downtown Disney. Most people get in a tight spot when they don't expect to. If you knew it was coming, you wouldn't go or you'd be armed, right? In the theme parks it seemed pretty safe, but there were places in transit to and from the parks where you could get mugged.
If you decide to go to Universal Studio/Islands of Adventure, definitely carry. It might have been bad timing on my part, but it looked like "gang members get in free day" the day I went.
I used a Smartcarry holster and even on the real wild rides the weapon stayed very secure. Watch it on rides where you might get wet.
 
Well I just got back...

What a miserable time... rained like nothing else the whole time... just peeled outta my wet clothes... but nobody got shot and nothing weird happened as typical.

They were opening coats and parkas to check for "weapons". Well I think their security just plain stinks. :D

fivepak... I know what you mean. Universal Studios is one of my favorite parks... and sometimes the crowd at City Walk can get kinda shady.... but I don't worry... They aren't expecting me. Typically they're there just to "get crunk" and "hook up with some honeys". Doesn't worry me. :cool:

I did like the rides at Universal better than Disney, though.

I'm surprised they're having people open their jacket. I went when it was in the nineties, the last week of April. To find my gun they'd have to dig around in my drawers. :eek: :D
