Im going to try to go coyote hunting soon. Any suggestions? Ive hunted deer, turkey, and squirrel all of my life but never coyote. Ive thought about using my ar15 or my 308 or maybe even both. What do you do with the yotes when you're done? Please share your tricks of the trade!

Never been coyote hunting either, but it's fairly popular around here. If you're allowed to hunt at night, do so. They're more active.

Set up a comfortable place to lay low for a long time and mind your scent, just like deer hunting. You can bait 'em with entrails or road kill, or you can call them in with the right kind of game calls.

IMHO anything you shoot should be put to good use, so I'd say skin 'em and keep the pelts. The carcasses can always be used as bait for more 'yotes ;)

You could also sell the pelts, but it is not likely you'll have a ton of them and might be a waste of time. I am sure your state has a Furtrappers assc; I'd contact them.

Near as I can tell, there is only one shot to the vitals on that deer in the sign. Maybe a lucky backbreaker or two.

'Hang them in the living room?'
I can do you one better. 1st day home from surgery and my husband was bored with baby sitting, left me at home with his Pop and went hunting.

Needless to say he had his 1st kill and drug it home and into the house
[Blood an all!] to show me because I was to unsteady and a little high on pain meds to go back outside.:what::

Now the hide hangs in the family room with other species.:D

Try mouth calls and start calling softly inreasing volume as needed[like a dying rodent].My husband started with electronics but has much better luck with mouth calls.

Move into an area slowly, keep down wind, use full camo, keep barrier to your back (bluff, ect) so they can't circle around behind, try to get elevated position, use hand pruners to clear a field of fire, set up and wait 15-20 minutes before calling, start out low volume, wait 3-5 minutes between cycles, when one come in do not move - if he knew you were there he wouldn't be, wait until his attention is drawn away before raising up gun. Shoot fast - they don't hang around, I shoot for center of mass, if he's not immediately dead then he at least won't get away (would never do this deer hunting), they make less noise than a squirrel when sneaking up, I use mouth and electronic calls plus rabbit and fawn decoys. Call for about 30-45 minutes, then move on. Usually use an AR15 with a 4x scope but have also used a 30-30 and 30-06 with 3x9s.

I was talking to an old huterite and he told me from his experiences is to stick the bait to a board so he can't drag it away.
