I was wondering if anybody up there would know any good places for me to check out M1 Carbines.

I haven't gun shopped in MD for years so is it even legal to by a long gun there with just a background check or would I have to ship it to a local FFL here.

Thanks for the help.

Chris

As it has a removable magazine is suspect it will fall under Md's Draconian "Assault Weapon" Laws meaning a back ground check, a one week waiting period, and probably still have to ship out to a Tenn FFL.

The Gun Rack in Burtonsville has one. However, I'm guessing gun prices in your neck of the woods are probably better, I doubt if there is such a place which would have higher prices than MD.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the M1Carbine doesn't fall under the "assult weapon" catagory so it is only the federal background check, not all the same hoops as for a handgun/"assult rifle". However, I'm pretty sure that to buy long guns here you have to live in an adjoining state (and many dealers still won't sell to you). If you still have a MD address and dual residency, never mind about that last sentence.

MessedUpMike,

Not all rifles w/ removable mags count as "assult weapons". My 10/22 has a removable mag and no problem. I think there may be something about certain features that make it an "assult rifle" above and beyond a removable mag.

In fact, here is the law/listing of what makes it an "assult rifle" (i.e. it has to be one of these models, it doesn't seem to matter the features):
