Never thought I would be saying that. But yesterday I ordered a Polymer80 Aggressive texture coyote fram from Brownell’s. They’re on sale for $119 with free shipping.

A friend of mine built one with the same frame. I got to play with it and really liked it, but wasn’t going to build one. I did like the shape of the Polymer80 Aggressive texture frame and the fact that it didn’t have finger groves. I have a Gen3 19 RTF that I carry and enjoy shooting.
Last year I got a super deal on a trade. I ended up with a Gen3 Glock 19 in great shape with only $160 tied up in it.
I ended up giving it to my oldest son, but last month he told me that he wanted to sale it and get a Gen4 Glock 17. Well I had a Gen4 17 that was like new sitting in the safe, another sweet deal, that had just been sitting there for about a year. So I traded my son the 17 for the 19.
I got to thinking that it would be fun to build one of the 80% lowers and use the Gen3 19 for parts.
So that’s the plan for now. I think that eventually, with the prices coming coming down, I will end up buying all new parts for the 80% build.

I think you will like the build. I have a few P80 builds (and a compact coyote lower also purchased from Brownells during the sale, great minds think alike). My first build was completed using a hand drill, a utility knife, and a lot of patience. Now I use a dremel and the whole build takes probably an hour or so. One thing to note is that on this new generation the locking blocks fit in extremely tightly, on one of my builds i had to bevel the bottom edge just to get it started.

What has the feedback been on people who’ve built them? It weirds me out just a little that it doesn’t have metal rails for the slide...

I built mine using a utility knife, files, sandpaper and a hand drill. It was amazingly simple to do to the point it reminded me of building model cars as a young child. I shoot my P80 compact better then my Gen 4 Glock probably because it just points better.

Quite so, I expect you to have fun with this. Although IMHO the project is much too simple, compared with something like AK or CETME-L builds. Even AR-15 is more challenging. That said, I'm curious how it goes for you. Some of the reviews at Brownells tell us about people misplacing the pin holes, and then having to enlarge them out of spec, otherwise pins would not fit. But because the holes are now oval, pins constantly walk out. I don't know if it's sad or funny. But apparently you must watch out for the dimensions in the jig - it may be not 100% drill-and-pray.

I have seen those 80% frames. Gave them some considerations. But I want to do a 1911 80% first.
Looking forward to reading your experience, Gunny.

Built one and loved every minute of doing it. I used files and sand paper to do all of the finishing work and a drill to do the holes. Wasn't too hard. After around 25 rounds of single shot action it runs smoothly now. I suspect I could have avoided that if I would have taken more time to fine tune. I think you'll have a good time.

It arrived today along with the Glock lower parts kit.

I really like the texture of the grip.

The texture looks more aggressive then my Glock19 RTF, but the RTF Is actually more aggressive

I assume that these have a 1911 style grip angle rather than a customary Glock grip angle?

About two weeks ago PSA had a sale on CMC Glock triggers. I ordered one of the flat ones for $100.
I put it in the the model 19 that I plan to rob for this build and I really like it. It breaks clean and has a very short reset. It will be going into this build.

Thanks for the quick response.

What with all the 9x19 carbine talk of late I was just thinking perhaps on of those heavy things might be in a pawn shop or two as folks "upgrade"

Well, I do have a habit of over doing things.
My plan was just to build the lower with the parts from the 19 Gen 3, but I ordered a lower parts kit with the frame. Today I ordered a Swenson slide and barrel from MidwayUSA along with a slide parts kit. So it looks like I am going to be building the gun with all new parts.
I have two sets of Glock fix sights, but may end up buying some nicer sight for the build.
I'll take more pics when the parts arrive and start the build once all the parts are here.
