Ruger SR1911. I have both models. I carry my commander off-duty.
I really like my stainless SR1911 it's a very nice pistol. I'd still buy a 645 Smith in a heartbeat if I ran into one.
Ruger SR45's are cheap used on gunbroker. Would buy one myself if threaded barrels were available.
Other than that it's tough not to suggest a 1911. For a revolver, the convertible Ruger Blackhawk is double the .45 for your money as you get both the .45 Colt cylinder, but a spare .45 ACP cylinder too. With that you can plink cheap with ACP and get the hot .45 Colt ammo that's about equal to .44 Mag power.
Whoo, boy. It all really comes down to your budget and the size of your gun room or walk-in safe. Here are a few out of the way ideas in a generally descending order:
Delta AR -- you have to be an Italian to call a fine pistol "AR"
Korriphila HSP 701
Winchester 92 South African contract
H&R Model 60
RMW Xtreme -- DI
Flint River Armory CSA-45 -- Piston
CMMG Guard -- a true delayed blowback
Vector Arms Uzi
Auto-Ordnance TM1C -- asked about this one above
Marlin Camp 45
H&K Mark 23
Ruger Vaquero -- mind, .45 ACP is not permitted by SASS
SIG P320C 320C-45-B
S&W M&P Shield 45
Charter Arms Pitbull .45
Kahr CM45 -- the only smaller .45 that you can buy is Hertzer PKO-45
Consider the S&W 625 revolver, you can shoot 45 ACP in moon clips or 45 Auto Rim.
I would suggest one of the ACP revolvers from S&W.
How about a .45 Colt combo?
First start off with something in a single action revolver:
Then add a nice, handy little lever action rifle and you have the Perfect Pair in .45!
Great suggestions here.
In order of favorite .45s :
.45 flintlock,.45 uberti SAA,.45ruger blackhawk, .45 sr1911cmd, .45 1911 officer.
I think a good suggestion would be a ruger redhawk 50/50 model .45colt/.45acp. Best of both worlds.
Given the special occasion I would pick something that you don't have.
I like your Thompson idea .
Here is the only decent suggestion you're going to get.
When you turned 44, what did you get in .44 caliber?
My Ruger Blackhawk is a convertible. 45 LC and a second cylinder in 45 ACP...
Highly recommend that!
Hi Point carbine is what I was going to suggest as an alternative to all the handguns. I like mine.
A S&W revolver is always a good suggestion. A 1917, model 25 or 625 are all good options.
Go with the 45 colt/acp convertible Blackhawk or Redhawk. Celebrate your 45 years lived so far, and 45 more to go.
I agree on the S&W revolvers. I bought a used 625 and immediately fell in love with it. That N-frame sits perfectly in my hand, I use plastic moon clips, and have a blast with it. No hassle, just fun.
Something that holds 6 rounds, requires cocking for each shot, made of wood and blues steal and fires a round with “LC” in the name. I’ll leave the rest of the details to you.
Discontinued, so if you want one get it now.
Thank goodness. Finally somebody knowing it is .45 colt, not LC.
ruger blackhawk convertible 45lc/acp single action revolver. bond arms 410/45lc derringer with an extra 45acp barrel set.
Glock 45? Oh wait thats 9mm
No, really, my most fun guns to shoot are my Vaqueros, so put me on the SAA in .45 LC train, I'd like one myself. Maybe a Blackhawk for hunting and whatnot
Smith 25 sounds like a neat option. a 45 LC would be kinda cool too. was just trying to avoid yet another caliber to buy dies and associated gear for.
hmm. 625 is also stainless. hmmm...
Wow a lot of good suggestions.
I have a bunch of old 45 Auto ammo I want to shoot up. I have several 1911'sfrom my IPSC days but I don't really enjoy shooting them much. I have the S&W M&P 45 full-size at the top of my list but I am enjoying the suggestions on this thread.
If you've already got 1911's, and are already set up to reload 45 ACP, how about a S&W 625? Those are fun guns.
I have a Vaquero and a Blackhawk, each in .45 acp.
Real fun guns.
