Gonna buy a new .380 today Bersa or Walther?

I've complained about my Bersa thunder .380 Deluxe for about a year. Last week I tried a new mag. No more complaints. The original mag was faulty to begin with. Too bad I wasn't smart enough to replace it earlier. Shot another 100 rounds last sunday with no problems.

I used to own the pk380. I don't know how to say it but it just didn't feel like quality to me. The take down screw thing was a pain and you need a special tool for it. Also the barrel had significant peening after just one range session. It shot good enough but I just felt like I could find something a little more solid for the money. I like the bersas they have good weight and don't feel like a toy as much as the pk. Good luck.

I'd say neither, but that's me. Get a Polish P-64. It's cheaper and better. The round is more powerful, less expensive, easier to find, and the gun is smaller than the Bersa but the same weight. The Bersa's trigger is just awful. Very heavy and very long. People complain about the stock P-64 trigger weight, but the Bersa takes the cake.

WardenWolf, you handled a bad example. That's the only explanation.

According to Gunblast.com
"The Bersa has one of the best double-action trigger pulls on the market, measuring a smooth seven pounds, five ounces on this sample gun. The single action pull measures four pounds, five ounces. "

According to the unofficial P64 forums, the P64 DA trigger is 25-27lbs.

You're entitled to your opinions, but comparing the trigger pull on these 2 guns does not even begin to make any sense. The words don't even belong in the same sentence.

OP: I have never handled the Walther PK380, but my impression was that it was like the SIG Mosquito and Walther P22: a fun gun made to look like a combat gun by using investment casting of cheap alloys. I wouldn't have even considered one for defense. The only problem I've had with the Bersa is with a certain batch of S&B. It jammed even while loading the mags.

I wonder how many people voting for Bersa even own the Walther. I don't own a Walther but I do own the Bersa and agree with the others here.

Go with the Bersa. :p

I've owned a Bersa Thunder 380 and my advice is to go with the Walther. The Bersa is a cheap gun that WILL let you down.

I've owned a PPK/S (not the PK380.) I liked it at the time, for what I bought it for. That was a long time ago, and it has since gone by the wayside.
Currently, I own a Bersa Thunder, and could not be more pleased with it. It has readily digested every round I've put through it, including stuff from 2 to 20 years old, mixed up in the mags. As I've said before, if ammo for it was as plentiful and inexpensive as 22LR ammo is, this would be my most enjoyable gun to shoot. It was my EDC until I came across a good deal on a Kel-Tec PF9.
Now, all that being said, you said you were buying the gun "today" when you posted, and that was two weeks ago. So, which way did you go?

I like this one:

I not so long ago purchased my own bersa thunder ultra compact 9 for $299 and its my daily carry, it rides on my hip in a paddle holster and in the glove box of my pick-up and no wear marks at all yet. as far as reliabilty never had problems here, and i use the cheapest ammo i can find. on the plus side the bersa 380 i've noticed has alot more aftermarket options available.

i've played with walther and like someone said it feels like a warm handshake.

Two Requirements

For a defensive gun, there are to main specs:

1. Must fire when needed.

2. See spec 1.

I have both the PK380 and the Bersa Thunder. I personally like the PK380 better. Fits nicer in the hand, and I'm pretty darn accurate with it. The Bersa isn't a bad gun either. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of them.

I finally got my wife to come out to the range today (she just isn't that into shooting, and hasn't been in a while). I brought both of them, because both were purchased with her in mind. She ended up shooting the Bersa MUCH better than the PK380. I have no clue why, and she can't explain why either, but when switching back and forth between them, she was consistently much better with the Bersa.

Bersa, can't beat the price and the reliability. Only had a couple FTFs but came to find out it was only grip related as my Mother in law and wife can sometimes limp wrist.

My Bersa has been perfect. I teach NRA Pistol, and none of the student have ever had a malfunction either.

I have not shot the PK380.

the Bersa I had was a jammer but it has a great trigger though. If money is not an issue, try the Walther just for fun, you might like it!

I hate the BIG LOGO on the side of the Walther though...

He bought a Bersa and is a member of http://bersachat.com

I bought the Bersa because the PPK/S hurt web of my hand to shoot Bersa little wider and doesn't hurt to shoot. Bersa has better trigger than PPK/S also. never tried the new
PK 380 to ugly

re the .380 Bersa

I bought a .380 Bersa about a year ago. Its a great well built gun. I paid
(new) ($269.00) - It feels solid and just fine CCW - I reload and know that the velocity isn't far off from the 9MM. I choose this gun over paying more than Twice as much for a SIG. This is a great gun and as good as the
High $ Priced German SIG. -
