I'll be moving to Phoenix in about two months and don't know a lot about the area I'm living in so I'm wanting to get a gun safe. It doesn't need to be that big, but I'd like it to hold around 6-8 long guns, and have some shelving to hold pistols and ammo. Does anybody have some suggestions?

Give the 24 gun unit at Tractor Supply a look. They can be had on sale for about 600 bucks and come with a good warranty....Of course the "safe experts" are gonna tell you it's not a "real" safe, but a RSC and can be opened with a fire axe, sawzall, circular saw, ect. Of course, so can most of the boxes out there that are called "gun safes"....It may not stop a dedicated safe cracker, but it should stop the routine crackhead smash and grabber.

Lot's of safe threads here in this forum (including two or three last week alone) - I suggest using the search function to drag out a reading list. :)

Good affordable safe
Good and affordable don't appear in the same safe.
You'll be faced with making a compromise.
Err on the side of security over price, you'll never regret getting a safe that was "too good" or "too big".
Look for used safes too. When you get to Phoenix, look in the phone book and go to all the safe dealers. Safes are a bi*ch to move so folks trade or sell them rather than pay a mover.
Save money on cosmetics. A local coin dealer in my area has a safe that looks like it was made in 1900, but man, is the door thick!

I bought a nice sentry 24 gun at Dicks about 6 months back. Was on sale for 550 plus had a 50 dollar rebate. I like it. Im sorry for your bad luck on Phoenix. Been here 4 years, trying like heck to get out back where life is again. Not to bad on crime. I've had a truck stolen, other than that I've been lucky. I'll pm you the worst spots. Hopefully you're not in those areas.

Besides safe "dealers". also look at locksmiths - many also sell safes on the side and take trade-ins. You will most likely get a better quaility and bigger unit for the same money as new
