True Shot Gun Club is running a super sale on Rio Elite 12ga ammo including the #8, 1 oz, 1200 fps, 2 3/4” 2 3/4 dram equivalent target ammo I like best for $47.60 a case. No tax, but shipping does bite into the savings. I find their cheapest shipping per case is on 3 cases for around $36 to Texas. Other quantities, either more or less, cost more per case for some reason. So my bottom line price on 3 cases yesterday was around $179, or put more simply, $6 a box.

So what’s the issue? Well, every day of the week I can get Rem Gun Club at Gander in a similar loading (maybe the same weight and speed, maybe just a little heavier depending on what I find available) for $49.99 a case plus state tax, delivered free or picked up locally at the store. That’s about $160 for three cases. In fact, it is sometimes a little cheaper in the store, but the $49.99 price is a reliable fall back all the time. So a box averages out around $5.35 or so.

Now the Rio Elite is premium stuff, I think, and it is only $0.60 more a box than the very mediocre Gun Club. What say you guys? What is the bottom line analysis? (Truth be told, I will probably waffle back and forth, buying the Rio when it is offered at that price, and the Gun Club the rest of the time.). But it is a rainy Friday and the ‘Stros aren’t playing the Yankees until tomorrow, so let’s discuss.

One other thing, I wonder if I put together a large order with some friends (I have one or two), like maybe 20 cases, would True Shot eat some of the shipping, which is already pretty reasonable. Just a thought.

Yup, AF has it right... either order a big load or split an order with some buddies and divvy up the shipping costs and you’ll be in like Flynn!

Stay safe,

I shoot a lot of Gun Club 1 1/8 2 3/4 d.e. and maintain a pretty good trap average. I personally have not warmed up to the RIO stuff but friends like it. I shot a flat of 1 oz game loads and they kicked like short magnums. Maybe my three quarter century old shoulder is turning wussy on me.
I'll shoot anything for sub $50/flat these days with shot at $40/bag.

We found a good deal on Rio's for the HS trap team. We bought a years supply for the kids. I dont recall how many cases now...but several....not one issue.
The only thing was, they were regular 2¾ dram loads but they were extremely high brass. Like duck loads!.
Other than that, they were fine.
