GOOD GUN GREASE...

Brother, you ask 20 people you will get 21 answers, I really like Lubriplate, but I have been using the same tube of Mobil 1 synthetic grease for years.
Automotive bearings generate lots of heat and this works great, I have never had a grease related failure.

Any grease will work, specific "gun" grease is more expensive then automotive grease. They will all work.

Another vote for Mobtil 1 grease.

Unlike petroleum based greases it doesn't harden. I have Garands I've greased up and put away years ago and the grease is still as soft as when I applied it.

I started using Dri-Slide in Vietnam in 1968. Still the best lube for AR internals.

I am surprised how few people know about semi fluid greases. Auto Zone does not have them, neither does Walmart. I guess like most, I found them because the military uses it.

Of the type for revolver mechanisms, I think military LSA is the best overall semi fluid grease I have encountered. But I have not tried them all.

LSA is more fluid than grease, some semi fluids are more grease than liquid. One outstanding characteristic of semi fluids is their great surface adherence. Which is why the things are used in transmissions, etc. I have been using this in the slide rails, locking lugs, barrel end, of my 1911's:

it is more grease than fluid., Works great on my 1911's as the stuff stays put.

Semi fluid greases are well worth investigating. Just a drop of LSA down the hammer, let it slide to the sear surfaces, and dry fire. It will spread throughout the mechanism.

When you guys say “Mobil 1”, do you mean only the reddish grease used as a Lube, or do you sometimes mean just an oil made by Mobil, used as a Lube ?

And there seems to be no rational reason why any lube or grease must have “gun” in the title.

Take a look at the Lubriplate product I linked to and then try to match the specifications to another one of the Lubriplate grease products. It's kind of an interesting experiment.

Their oil and grease work good for me. A bottle and a tube have lasted me a long time..
Everyone has their preference this is my choice.

I have waited till a good price on LSA popped up, and then purchased a number of quart bottles. Surplus LSA periodically appears on the market. You pay a better price when the tide is high, than when it is low! I and also purchased empty 4oz bottles. Filling the 4 oz bottles was a lot cheaper than buying filled 4 oz bottles, and the bottles are useful as an oil bottle. I found that by putting one marble in the 4 oz bottle, and in the quart can, I was able to shake the semi fluid up fast.
