I just moved up to Northern VA / DC area to take a job. I brought all the funsticks with me and of course I'll need to find a good range. Any suggestions? I was thinking about joining the NRA's range for a year, since I'm already an NRA member and thus get some perks there. However, I'd also like to find an outdoor range where I can shoot at least 100 yards.

In addition, what are some good gun shops to browse / buy from?

Decent outdoor ranges in NoVA proper can be a bit hard to find. Check out the Issac Walton chapters. Quantico Shooting Club is also a possibility but has had issues with range access recently. Virginia Arms in Manassas is my preferred shop.

I used to shoot at Gilberts in Springfield or Clark Bros. in Warrenton.

Try 340 Defense in Rippon, WV 25441. That's where I shoot, but it's weekends only. Has out to 400 yards. Have to join ($35) and then it's $25 an hour, or you can join for unlimited weekends for $300 a year.

Virginia Arms in Manassas is one of the best gun stores.

The Cove Campground in Gore VA has a 'range' of sorts where you can shoot about 100 yards.

Speed, I'll also invite you to check out the very active Virginia forum at opencarry.org if you're interested in meeting a lot of your new neighbors. We have regular get togethers around the area.
