I want to start reloading for my new .357. I would like to get some good hard cast 158gr bullets. The gun will be used as a woods gun, maybe to hunt deer, and to eliminate aluminum cans.
Suggestions and places to get them would be appreciated.

I suggest you find a local production caster. Where are you? Buying locally eliminates shipping costs and if your caster is REALLY cool, he'll appreciate a cash sale enough that tax won't be an issue.

I use Tru-Shot Bullets out of Lafayette, IN. They sell a 158 gr. SWCBB for $15.00 per 500 (2002 prices). Bullets are Brinnell Hardness 16 and use a Magma hot wax lube. I don't know if shipping is an issue but if you are interested I can send along the name, address and phone number.

1k of any bullet is gonna be heavy, so, shipping charges are always of interest. and, how far your point to point is. pays to shop around.

i use Oregon Trail Laser Cast. they are in Oregon and i am in Arkansas. i ordered a bunch last year and at that time, the price quoted included shipping.

i could shop around and save a little i suppose, but, these bullets are tops in my guns and not that much more. near eliminated leading of the bbls. i shoot my magnums hot so this is a blessing.

absolutely the cheapest way to go is cast your own out of wheelweights. have shot many thousands of these and they work as good as anything. bullet casting is an easily attainable art and an enjoyable one. recommend the Lyman manual on cast bullets and loads.

I know that Cabelas carries Oregon Trail and I used them in the .45LC that I owned I think I will try them. They worked just fine in it, and IIRC the shipping wasn't too bad. I am willing to pay to get what I want anyway. I always have been an obstinate child.
Since my loads are going to be sort of 38-44ish, I think that most any bullet would probably work. I also know a guy who is going to hook me up with some miscellaneous .357 bullets, so I should be set for awhile.
Thanks for the responses.
Those beartooth bullets look useful as well. I may get a couple hundred of those just to have some around.
I really like the .357mag round. I love my 9mm's, but the .357 can be loaded to do whatever I want it to. Someone should have kicked my butt for selling the first one I had.
The only thing is, now I gotta get an old model Blackhawk and a 6" M-19, and maybe a SP-101 or a J-frame.

The true "Keith Semi-wadcutter" is the Lyman mould #358429. this bullet can be had from several casting companies. There are some folks who believe that this is the best there is. Keith's load was 13.5gr of 2400 under the 168/173gr bullet. I usually have cut it back to 13.0gr of 2400 as there are some who say the newer 2400 is a little faster. Quantrill
